Volunteer Now has partnered with Be Collective to bring a dedicated online platform for volunteering to Northern Ireland. The platform supports volunteers through the volunteering process and helps connect more people with a wider range of opportunities. There’s lots of great features to Be Collective like messaging, making a profile, and being able to compile all your experiences, training and roles as well as the skills gained within a social CV.

To support autistic adults to build social connection, confidence, and a sense of belonging through relaxed, interest-based community activities. Volunteers help facilitate inclusive sessions such as the walking club and Silent Reading group, creating a calm, welcoming environment where participants can connect in ways that feel comfortable and meaningful to them. Autism Connect sessions are held on a Tuesday and Thursday evening, 18:00-20:30

About Bolster Community

Bolster Community is a charity based in Newry supporting individuals and families to thrive. Autism Connect is a community-based initiative designed with and for autistic adults, offering low‑pressure opportunities for social connection, shared interests, and peer support in an understanding and accepting environment.

Tasks and responsibilities
  • Welcome participants and help create a calm, inclusive, and respectful atmosphere.
  • Support the facilitation of Autism Connect activities, which will always be led by paid staff.
  • Encourage social connection while respecting individual communication styles, boundaries, and sensory needs.
  • Offer companionship and gentle support as needed, without pressure to participate beyond comfort levels.
  • Assist staff with setting up and closing down sessions.
  • Promote a sense of community, belonging, and mutual respect.
  • Communicate any concerns or observations to Bolster Community staff.
