We’re supporting a specialist engineering manufacturer in South Devon who are expanding their R&D capability. They’re looking for a multi‑skilled Senior Prototype Engineer to take ownership of early‑stage development work, machining activities, and one‑off technical challenges across metals, composites, and experimental assemblies.

This is a practical, workshop‑based role where you’ll be the go‑to person for creating prototypes, tooling, fixtures, jigs, and proof‑of‑concept solutions.

YOUR NEW ROLE

* Designing, machining, and fabricating prototype components and development tooling

* Producing CNC programs and machining parts to tight tolerances

* Building jigs, fixtures, and bespoke assemblies for trials and testing

* Working with metallic and composite materials

* Troubleshooting mechanical and basic electrical elements within prototypes

* Leading small R&D projects from concept through to functional prototype

* Collaborating with Engineering and Production on DFM, feasibility, and process development

* Managing day‑to‑day workshop activities, tooling, and safe working practices

ABOUT YOU

* Strong background as a machinist, toolmaker, prototype engineer, or similar

* Confident CNC programming and machining skills

* Hands‑on fabrication, assembly, and problem‑solving ability

* Experience working with metals and ideally composites

* Ability to interpret drawings, models, and specifications

* Practical electrical knowledge (wiring, sensors, low‑voltage systems)

* Someone proactive, creative, and comfortable working independently on varied tasks
