We have an exciting opportunity for an Instrument Technician to join our team at our site on the outskirts of Newton Abbot. The successful candidate will be responsible for the maintenance, fault finding, repair, servicing and calibration of our metocean instruments and sensors. Dutiesand Responsibilities
- Preparing, servicing & calibration of a variety of sensors and instrumentation
- Troubleshooting technical issues, electronic fault finding & instrument testing
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance, calibration and repairs
- Planning and prioritising the day-to-day workload to ensure efficient use of resource
- Liaise with suppliers regarding ongoing technical queries with equipment
- Collaborate closely with other team members to ensure project delivery
- Hands on experience of maintaining sensors, including pressure (transducers), ultrasonic, ADCPs, turbidity and conductivity
- Understanding of wiring diagrams and schematics
- Electrical fault‑finding experience
- Knowledge of different battery types
- Practical maintenance using hand tools and multimeters
- Use of instrument configuration software
- Proficient in the use of computer and common MS packages
- Excellent problem solving and analytical skills
- Electronic repairs with soldering experience highly beneficial
- Knowledge of Program Logic Controllers (PLC’s) an advantage but not essential
- Level 3 qualification (HNC/ONC/NVQ 3 or higher) in Electrical/Electronic Engineering beneficial
- Previous experience within a metocean, oceanographic or environmental monitoring beneficial
- Understanding of the principles of telemetry and data communications methods, ie satellite, HF or radio, serial (RS232) beneficial

The role is 37.5 hours per week worked Monday to Friday, based with our team on the outskirts of Newton Abbot and easily accessible from Exeter, Plymouth and Torbay.
