Healthcare Assistant

Our healthcare team has a real impact on promoting health and well‑being to those in prison and we pride ourselves on using skills that instil hope for patients’ future resettlement back into the community. This role is a Healthcare Assistant who will assist in the delivery of high quality nursing care to patients in prison with the support of a registered nurse.

• Take blood pressures, ECGs and other observations and provide wound care according to a written care plan.
• Actively engage with patients in the provision of holistic, needs‑led care which considers the physical, psychological, emotional, social and spiritual needs of the individual.
• Promote health and well‑being through the delivery of health promotion activities and programmes and respond to patients’ needs and assist patients to attain optimal physical health.
• Assist patients with physical procedures alongside a registered healthcare professional.
• Contribute to risk assessment and individualised care planning.
• Respond to the needs of patients with an open, non‑judgemental and honest manner, respecting the rights of individuals and groups.

• NVQ Level 3 or equivalent experience.
• Competent at taking blood pressure, ECGs and other observations.
• Wound care experience and knowledge.

• Experience working in a primary care setting – hospital, secure units or prisons.
• Experience in wound care.

• Ability to assess risk and develop individualised care plans effectively.

All applicants must be willing to undertake National Security Vetting in order to work in a prison setting.
