An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 Emergency Nurse/Paramedic/AHP to join Newton Abbot Urgent Treatment Centre (UTC) as we are expanding our team. We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic, motivated, dynamic nurse who can demonstrate commitment to the provision of high‑quality person‑centred care.
You will participate in the delivery of high standards of care to patients and their families. In particular, you will take responsibility for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating programmes of evidence‑based nursing care to a group of patients, and act as an independent, autonomous practitioner, assessing, diagnosing and discharging patients using sound clinical rationale while working under the direction of the senior practitioner team in close liaison with interdependent departments.
Mainduties of the job
- Provide assessment, treatment management and discharge of adults and children attending the Urgent Treatment Centre
- Refer patients to senior clinicians or interdependent departments promoting professional working relationships
- Actively identify and report any clinical risks
- Identify educational needs of self and proactively meet these needs
- Assess, treat and diagnose patients using nationally recognised tools, for example NEWS / sepsis screening
- Work as an autonomous practitioner using competencies including Patient Group Directives
- Make clinical decisions using evidence‑based knowledge
- Offer health advice and promotion to patients and their families, including education on self‑management
- Actively participate in departmental audits on both national and local basis
- Undertake a link role attending relevant meetings and sharing learning with the wider team to influence and promote best practice
Your duties and responsibilities will be undertaken on a shift and rotation basis covering our opening hours seven days a week, 365 days a year.
About usThe UTC operates in a busy environment, supporting the local community with a wide variety of patients of all ages with minor injuries and illnesses. We work remotely from the local Emergency Department but maintain close links to ensure high‑quality service and help alleviate pressures on Emergency Departments by relocating patients from the main hospital site. We also operate, and our team rotates into two satellite units, providing communities with a local service that keeps many patients closer to home.
Our team is enthusiastic and committed to supporting education, sharing knowledge and developing our service.
Priority will be given to applicants with recognised 'Priority' or 'At Risk' status, including NHS staff identified across Devon.
Person Specification- Registered with NMC or HCPC
- Evidence of further study post‑registration in a relevant field
- Experience working in ED, GP, MIU or acute assessment areas
- Evidence of clinical teaching experience
- Experience using Patient Group Directives
- Extended skills such as suturing, plastering, or other relevant procedures
