Baltic Recruitment are currently recruiting for a Permanent Warehouse Specialist for a client located in Newton Aycliffe. Reporting into the Warehouse Lead, responsible for the safe, accurate, and efficient receipt, storage, handling, inventory control, picking, packing, and dispatch of products. Supporting day-to-day warehouse activities, ensuring compliance with company policies, Health & Safety regulations, quality standards, customs requirements, and customer expectations.
Utilising Warehouse Management System to manage inventory transactions, maintain stock accuracy, and support operational efficiency. Where applicable, the role will also involve working within a Customs Bonded Warehouse environment, ensuring compliance with HMRC regulations and customs procedures. Delivering excellent service to customers.
Warehouse Specialist Main Duties and Responsibilities:
Goods Receiving & Put Away
- Unload inbound vehicles using appropriate MHE equipment. Verify received products against delivery notes, purchase orders, packing lists, and customs documentation.
- Inspect goods for damage, discrepancies, or quality concerns and report issues promptly.
- Receive stock accurately into the Warehouse Management System. Generate and apply product identification labels.
- Allocate and store products in designated warehouse locations. Complete all receiving documentation accurately and promptly.
Picking, Packing & Dispatch
- Accurately pick customer orders using WMS-directed processes. Verify order accuracy prior to shipment, stage completed orders for final quality checks.
- Load outbound vehicles safely and efficiently.
- Complete shipping documentation, customs paperwork, and dispatch records as required. Ensure all transactions are completed accurately within the WMS.
Rework, Repacking & Value-Added Services
- Repacking, relabelling, rework, kitting, and assembly activities. Meeting targets and maintaining accurate records of completed work.
- Ensure products are correctly labelled and packaged. Dispose of waste materials.
- Report quality issues or product defects immediately.
Inventory Control & Warehouse Management Systems
- Use the Warehouse Management System to process all inventory movements. Maintain inventory accuracy.
- Cycle counting and stock audits. Investigate and resolve stock discrepancies, supporting inventory reconciliation activities.
- Generate reports and documentation, maintaining accurate location management and stock traceability.
Customs Bonded Warehouse Operations
- Operate in accordance with HMRC regulations governing bonded warehouse activities.
- Ensure goods entering and leaving bonded storage are processed accurately and fully documented. Maintain inventory traceability and audit readiness.
- Complete customs-related documentation. Support customs inspections and compliance audits when required.
- Immediately report any customs discrepancies, stock variances, or compliance concerns. Maintain strict adherence to customs security and control procedures.
Health, Safety & Compliance
- Conduct daily pre-use equipment inspections and report defects. Operate forklifts, Bendi trucks, pallet trucks, and other equipment safely.
- Wear PPE at all times.
- Report accidents, incidents, near misses, hazards, and unsafe conditions immediately.
- Participate in safety briefings, toolbox talks, and training sessions. Follow all site emergency procedures and evacuation requirements.
Housekeeping & Workplace Standards
- Maintain a clean, organised, and safe working environment. Ensure warehouse aisles, exits, and emergency equipment remain unobstructed.
- Remove waste and damaged materials promptly. Maintain pallet storage areas and external warehouse areas.
- Adhere to 5S and continuous improvement principles.
Warehouse Specialist Applicants:
- Minimum 3 years' experience within a warehouse or logistics environment.
- Experience using Warehouse Management Systems (WMS).
- Good understanding of inventory control processes.
- Knowledge of warehouse Health & Safety.
- Ability to work accurately under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Basic computer literacy including Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Experience working within a Customs Bonded Warehouse. Understanding of HMRC customs procedures and bonded stock controls.
- Continuous improvement or Lean Warehousing experience.
- Hold an accredited and in-date Counterbalance Forklift License. Bendi/Flexi Truck License (desirable).
- Manual Handling Training and Customs Compliance Awareness Training (desirable).
The role requires regular standing, walking, bending, lifting, reaching, and manual handling activities. Employees may be required to lift and move products in accordance with safe manual handling practices and company procedures.
