Job Description
At Newton Correctional Facility, we offer a wide range of career opportunities in various departments, including security, treatment, medical, administrative, and more. The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) will provide direct patient care under the general supervision of a registered nurse or physician, performing nursing procedures such as medication administration and injections, and working as part of an interdisciplinary team.
Responsibilities- Provide direct patient care and perform nursing procedures including administration of medication and inter‑muscular and subcutaneous injections.
- Communicate as a member of the Interdisciplinary Team working with mental health staff and patients on mental health concerns/issues.
- Document clients’ condition and progress in appropriate records.
- Guide and assist nursing personnel in the provision of patient care and nursing procedures.
- Participate in performance reviews and quality improvement programs.
- Participate in continuing education.
- Licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse by the Iowa Board of Nursing, or licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse in accordance with the Nurse Licensure Compact Administrator’s Agreement of the National Council of State Boards of Nursing.
- Knowledge of practical nursing techniques, procedures, and theory.
- Knowledge of physical illnesses, symptoms, treatment, and associated medical terminology.
- Knowledge of current medications, their actions and uses.
- Knowledge of general practices applied to the care and safe operation of medical equipment.
- Ability to plan, direct, and coordinate the work of assistive personnel.
- Ability to follow oral and written directions.
- Ability to establish and maintain rapport with clients.
- Ability to document care and observations in the medical record.
Licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse by the Iowa Board of Nursing or licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse in accordance with the Nurse Licensure Compact Administrator’s Agreement of the National Council of State Boards of Nursing. Please include your State of Iowa or compact state license number and expiration date. Compact license holders are required to obtain an Iowa license within 60 days.

HoursThe hours are 1:00 pm to 11:00 pm with every other weekend off.
