Position: New England Coastal Lead / Sr. Coastal Scientist

Moffatt & Nichol specializes in large complex waterfront infrastructure projects and is recognized as one of the worldwide leaders in this field. This position will support the Coastal / Water practice through ongoing business development and project management efforts. They will be responsible for the development of technical standards, design approaches, and manage the technical analysis of coastal engineering, science, and modeling projects.

Serves as local coastal leader contributing to strategic growth and development initiatives of the discipline and practice.

  • Actively participates in the identification, training, and development ofjunior staff
  • Interacts directly with clients; perceived as an expert in the market; serves as expert witness
  • Supports Coastal / Water practice through contacts and ongoing business development efforts
  • Works with critical agencies, as well as private sector clients
  • Implements scientific and regulatory tasks for projects in order to ensure compliance with applicable environmental laws, regulations, and policies
  • Leads, manages, and contributes technical oversight for coastal planning projects and studies, including:
  • Wave modeling, deep water Met Ocean conditions, hindcast data, gathering of wind, wave, current, and water levels measurements, processing and statistical data analysis
  • hydrodynamic, wave, and sediment transport models for assessment of environmental conditions
  • flood protection strategies
  • Provides design review and oversight, performs peer review
  • Monitors and reports on project scopes and budgets
  • Writes clear, concise, and accurate technical and non-technical reports, correspondence, memoranda, and specifications
  • Plans, schedules work and completes work assignments within established budgets and timelines
  • Expertise in areas of:
    • Coastal Planning and scientific processes
    • Wave transformation and wave agitation analysis
    • Met Ocean data analysis
    • Evaluating hydrodynamic and wave conditions Statistics and Scientific Visualization
    • MIKE by DHI, Delft3D
    • MATLAB, high performance computing
    • Geomorphology and Sediment Management
    • Coastal Management
    • Scientific Data Management

Qualifications
  • MS in Coastal, Ocean, Environmental or related science degree with Coastal emphasis; required
  • BS in Ecology, Marine Biology, Coastal, Geography or related science; required
  • 10+ years’ experience in Coastal Consulting industry; required
  • High ethical standards and work principles
  • Detail oriented, while being efficient in managing time and resources
  • Excellent writing, presentation, and communication skills
  • Expert negotiation and mediation skills, particularly with environmental regulatory matters
