Position: Senior Electrical Engineer (Newton)

HRBP Manager-International & Kansas City

Lead power system protection and control engineering projects from the conceptual phase through design completion and construction for electrical substation and transmission/distribution project needs to support the safe and reliable delivery of electricity. Responsible for performing power system studies and system protection settings coordination analysis (using ASPEN One Liner or Electrocon CAPE software) on various projects (up to 500‑kV voltage level) including short circuit calculation, current transformer performance and ratio selection, over‑current element coordination, zone‑distance element selection and coordination, and relay loadability calculation.

Apply industry standards for the protection of system equipment, including power busses, power transformers, HV/MV circuit breakers, capacitor banks, reactors, transmission lines, and distribution feeders. Develop design basis documentation for protective settings and generate native relay configuration files using SEL’s AcSELerator, GE’s Enervista software programs and other applicable software programs. Execute complex assignments requiring the use of advanced electrical engineering techniques, resulting in the development of new or improved processes, equipment, and/or technological methods.

Provide technical guidance to the project team, conduct design reviews, support quality control and provide engineering support with construction and commissioning activities for substations. Assist project manager to develop scope of work and conceptual design for the projects including the development of project schedule, scope, budget, and staffing and construction planning.

Qualifications
  • Requires a Bachelor’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology*, or a directly related field from an accredited program plus seven (7) years of electrical engineering experience.
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in any Engineering Technology field must be accompanied with completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.
  • Alternatively, the employer will accept a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, or a directly related field from an accredited program plus six (6) years of electrical engineering experience in lieu of a Bachelor’s degree plus seven (7) years of described experience.
  • Must have three (3) years of experience in each of the following:
    • Electrical systems studies in the electric utility or industrial power distribution industry.
    • Electrical standard engineering techniques and procedures as applied to power system design.
    • ANSI and IEEE Standards.
    • Leading the power system studies and system protection settings design for large projects and delegating work tasks to team members.
    • Performing quality reviews for power system studies and system protection settings.
    • Understanding of Protection and Control system design for substation applications and automation (69kV – 500kV), one‑lines, three‑lines, AC/DC schematics, control panel layouts, bill of materials, and protection specifications.
    • Applying FERC and NERC requirements as they pertain to electric utility reliability requirements.
    • Relay and Device Communication Protocols such as IEC
      61850, Ethernet, DNP3, or Modbus.
    • Device setting software programs such as SEL’s AcSELerator, GE’s Enervista, or other similar programs.
    • Microsoft Office Suite.
Travel & Telecommute

Telecommuting is allowed up to 30 days per year. Primarily domestic travel with occasional international travel up to 15% of the time for internal meetings, client and site visits.

Compensation

$156,936 – $240,000 per year. The expected compensation range for this position is displayed in compliance with all local/state regulations. The total annual compensation package will consist of a base salary and eligibility to participate in our discretionary year‑end incentive bonus program.
