Registered Nurse - Float Pool
Location: Newton-Wellesley Hospital (2014 Washington Street)
Schedule: 24 weekly hours, Night shift, on‑site
Pay Range: $39.79 - $95.96 per hour
Job Summary: The registered nurse renders highly professional and technical nursing care to assigned patients, utilizing the nursing process (assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation). The RN provides direct and indirect patient care using evidence‑based practice, collaborates with a multidisciplinary team, and may oversee other team members. The role requires flexibility for two 12‑hour shifts, alternate weekends, and alternate holiday rotation.
Specialty Areas & Additional Requirements- Adult GI: 2 years Critical Care/GI experience; ACLS required within first year; CCGRN preferred.
- Assisted Reproductive Technologies Clinic (ARTC): BSN required; ASRM RN certificate within 1st year; 1 year reproductive endocrinology experience.
- Cancer Center: 1 year outpatient chemotherapy experience; OCN or equivalent required within first year;
Chemotherapy/Biotherapy Administration Certification Card required. - Cardiovascular Center: 2 years Critical Care; BLS/ACLS required;
Cardiac ICU/CCU experience preferred; interventional radiology or electrophysiology experience preferred. - Device Clinic: 2 years device clinic experience with pacemaker programming; BCLS and ACLS required; HRS/NASP preferred.
- ED: 2 years ED experience; ACLS, PALS, CPI required within first year; CEN or CCRN preferred.
- ICU: 2 years Critical Care; ACLS required within first year.
- Labor & Delivery/AETU: 2 years L&D; NRP required within first year; fetal monitoring preferred.
- Maternal Fetal Medicine: 2 years perinatal services; BSN required; BLS required; ACLS preferred.
- Med/Surg: 1 year Med/Surg; telemetry training required within first year.
- Mother/Baby: 2 years Mother/Baby; NRP required within first year; fetal monitoring preferred.
- OR: 2 years OR;
Peri‑operative Nursing Program preferred; AORN certification preferred. - PACU/Henderson: 2 years PACU; ACLS and PALS required within first year; CPAN/CAPA preferred.
- Pediatrics: 2 years Pediatrics; NRP required within first year if cross‑trained.
- Pedi GI: 2 years Pediatrics; PALS required within first year.
- Psychiatry: 2 years Psychiatry; CPI required within first month.
- SCN: 2 years SCN; NRP required within first year.
- STAT RN: 2 years Critical Care/Emergency; ACLS, PALS and CPI required within first year.
- Primary Care Triage RN: 2 years Triage/ER/Urgent Care/Outpatient; ANCC RN‑BC preferred.
- Adheres to general hospital standards; promotes teamwork via communication and interpersonal skills.
- Follows departmental policies and procedures.
- Contributes to overall quality of services.
- Keeps informed about changes; makes independent decisions within scope of nursing practice.
- Uses the nursing process and evidence‑based practice to ensure quality patient care.
- Assesses the patient’s physical, psychological, spiritual, cultural, and social needs.
- Provides competent and compassionate care tailored to individual patients and populations.
- Individualizes care considering age, development, abilities, culture, economic status, literacy, communication, cognition, and gender/sexual orientation.
- Updates knowledge and skills of populations served.
- Applies knowledge of illness, injury, and disease; recognizes symptoms requiring immediate intervention.
- Individualizes a plan of care based on assessments and collaboration with patient/family/others.
- Engages patient/family/significant others as partners in care.
- Updates plan of care and documentation based on ongoing assessments.
- Implements clinical and technical aspects of care and physicians’ orders in compliance with standards.
- Evaluates responses to goals and interventions; revises the plan of care accordingly.
- Demonstrates ability to set priorities when planning and implementing care.
- Coordinates and collaborates with resources and multidisciplinary team for discharge planning.
- Recognizes changes in patient’s status; informs physician and other professionals.
- Collaborates with Case Managers for discharge needs and barrier resolution.
