YMCA Camp Chickami is a traditional summer day camp located in Wayland, MA. Founded in 1955, Camp Chickami has inspired kids with countless opportunities to laugh, lead and make lasting friendships. Together, our proven programs and trained counselors deliver meaningful and memorable camp experiences that keep families coming back year after year after year.

Position Summary

The Camp Chickami Nurse is responsible for the health, safety and welfare of the Camp Chickami community through sound health promotion and practices, while complying with the Department of Public Health and the American Camping Association Regulations.

Essential Functions
  • Active support of our DEIB statement and putting into practice our commitment to equity, diversity, belonging and inclusion. Continue to think about strategies to support diversity goals of the organization.
  • Monitor the health conditions of campers and staff.
  • Review all camper and staff medical histories.
  • Responsible for proper daily records and reports regarding all camp incidents and accidents in daily medical log.
  • Clean and sanitize nurse’s station and supplies in accordance with camp’s safety protocols.
  • Monitor health medical records, inform staff of significant findings.
  • Responsible for collection of medicines at the start of each session.
  • Responsible for dispensation of medicine as prescribed by physician.
  • Prepare first aid kits for groups, camp hikes and trips.
  • Communicate with Camp Physician on call as necessary.
  • Communicate with parents regarding children’s health conditions when appropriate.
  • Follow camp standing orders for nurse.
  • Maintain and communicate emergency phone number list to staff.
  • Present general medical information to staff at orientation.
  • Order all necessary first aid supplies, in consultation with the Camp Director.
  • Maintain a clean and a well‑stocked infirmary.
  • Know camp emergency procedures and be prepared to act if warranted.
  • Actively participate in staff training, meetings, etc., including training with Camp’s Health Care Consultant.
  • Help with all camp activities and participate as a member of the camp staff team.
  • Demonstrate/teach the values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility to all campers and staff.
  • Follow all camp rules, regulations and policies and enforce them among peers.
  • Maintain positive public relations with families, visitors, and the general public at all times.
  • Able to visually and audibly identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to assigned activities.
  • Submit all required paperwork on time.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Registered nurse or LPN within the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
  • Must be 21 years of age or older.
  • College education or above.
  • Successfully pass the Massachusetts mandated CORI and SORI check.
  • Sound judgment, integrity, problem solving skills and risk management.
  • Human relation skills with general public and staff.
  • Strong understanding of characteristics and issues of all age groups.
  • Ability to multitask.
  • Physical assessment skills with children ages 5 – 15 years old.
  • Certified in CPR and First Aid and AED.
  • Positive attitude and ability to build a cohesive team.
