YMCA Camp Frank
A. Day, or "CFAD", is a co‑ed summer overnight camp west of Boston in beautiful East Brookfield, MA. Campers bond as a community, learning independence, contributing to a group, and building character through physical, social and educational activities. Our campers enjoy camp fires, bugle calls, canoeing, soccer matches, archery, talent shows and more.
Maintains safe swimming conditions in the pool, deck, and surrounding areas while creating a safe and positive atmosphere that promotes camper safety and engagement in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures. The lifeguard is responsible for enforcing the waterfront rules as outlined in the waterfront manual.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS- Maintains active surveillance of the waterfront area and proactively prevents injuries.
- Knows and reviews all emergency procedures and responds immediately to emergency situations in accordance with YMCA policies. Completes related reports (incident and accident reports) in a timely manner.
- presents a professional demeanor in proper uniform.
- Supports our DEIB statement and applies our commitment to equity, diversity, belonging and inclusion.
- Maintains effective, positive relationships with campers, participants and other staff.
- Applies safety rules, policies and guidelines for the waterfront and aquatic area. Maintains accurate records required by the YMCA and/or the state Health Department code.
- Performs equipment checks and ensures appropriate equipment is available as needed.
- Checks the waterfront for hazardous conditions when arriving and during shift.
- Cleans the waterfront area when not guarding, as required, and takes appropriate action.
- Attends all staff meetings and in‑service training.
- Performs routine cleaning responsibilities related to health and safety protocols.
- Willingness to accept responsibilities and duties other than those assigned.
- Minimum age of 18 years old or at least a high school graduate.
- Desire and ability to live and work in a camp setting.
- Commitment to support and advance anti‑racist work as an organization.
- Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
- Reliable, dependable, great time‑management skills, and ability to multi‑task.
- Certifications:
CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid and Emergency Oxygen. - Current American Red Cross Lifeguard or equivalent.
- Ability to maintain certification‑level physical and mental readiness.
- Good role model, high integrity, professionalism, and adaptability.
- Must demonstrate lifeguard skills in accordance with YMCA standards.
- Hear noises and distress signals in the aquatic environment, including in the water and anywhere around the zone of responsibility, and remain alert with no lapses of consciousness.
- Meet strength and lifting requirements.
- See and observe all sections of an assigned zone or area of responsibility.
