Join Atlantic Health's Behavioral Health Clinician position on the Psychiatric Consult Liaison Service for inpatient medical floors at Newton Medical Center.

Base pay range: $33.33/hr – $58.67/hr.

Job Description

The Behavioral Health Clinician works in collaboration with psychiatric providers completing initial and follow-up evaluations, therapeutic interventions, and after-care behavioral health planning. The Clinician acts as a liaison between medicine, nursing, social work, and psychiatry, participating in interdisciplinary delivery of care for medically admitted patients.

Responsibilities
  • Complete initial and follow-up evaluations for inpatient medical patients presenting with comorbid psychiatric needs, including assessment of psychiatric symptoms, detailed psychiatric histories related to symptom onset, duration, severity, past treatment involvement, and family presentations.
  • Provide clinically appropriate and validated brief focused therapeutic interventions in coordination with the psychiatric provider for consult liaison targeting identified treatment needs in the medical setting such as managing new-onset medical symptoms, stressors, substance misuse, behavioral management, and psychiatric features.
  • Assess for patients at risk of suicide, self‑harm, aggression/violence, substance misuse and withdrawal; complete safety and mitigation plans in collaboration with CL psychiatric providers and other stakeholders.
  • Provide support, direct assistance, and guidance for patients’ behavioral management needs, including agitation, confusion, and treatment‑interrupting behaviors; participate in patient huddles, rounding, behavior plans, interventions and debriefings.
  • Communicate assessment findings and recommendations to medical, nursing, and social work teams; participate in case conferences, huddles, and interdisciplinary treatment teams with the CL psychiatric provider, Service Line Manager and Director of Hospital Based Behavioral Health Services.
  • Coordinate after‑care behavioral health treatment plans and linkages to post‑discharge treatment, including outpatient behavioral health, substance use treatment and recommended case management and community services.
  • Facilitate and coordinate inpatient behavioral health transfers for voluntary and involuntary admissions with the inpatient behavioral health unit, outside psychiatric facilities, and psychiatric emergency services; handle insurance authorizations and care coordination.
  • Complete all required documentation with clarity, accuracy, and within required time frames; documentation includes initial biopsychosocials, notes, phone contacts, family/collateral contacts, and safety assessments.
  • Participate in performance improvement, clinical projects, and program development; attend and present in PI and departmental meetings; develop and maintain KPIs and data points for the department.
  • Provide education and training in de‑escalation, supportive and therapeutic interventions, and after‑care planning for medical, nursing, and social work teams.
  • Complete requested telepsychiatry evaluations as needed, assisting with device setup, evaluation, treatment, and after‑care recommendations.
  • Attend and participate in system PI and improvement projects for CL and other services in coordination with leadership.
  • Qualifications
    • Master's Degree in Social Work, Counseling, or related field.
    • Minimum 5 years of clinical or counseling experience.
    Preferred
    • LCSW or LPC license.
