Process Technician – Corning Incorporated
Join the team as a permanent process technician in our fiber optic cable manufacturing plant. In this role you will apply engineering principles to support and improve production processes and equipment.
Scope of PositionUtilize engineering principles and practices to effectively accomplish technical assignments and projects in support of defined process areas. Responsibilities include weekly engineering reports, daily reject dispositioning, project execution, and cross‑departmental collaboration to resolve process and product issues.
Day to Day Responsibilities- Create and deliver the weekly engineering reports. Assist operations with daily dispositioning of rejects.
- Provide problem‑solving support to production operations.
- Execute assigned area’s process performance improvement (OEE), recipe management projects (Safety, Yield, Cost, Capacity).
- Interface with operators, team leaders, and peers to develop and implement process, equipment, and safety improvements into manufacturing.
- Work with engineers to develop equipment specifications/requirements for new equipment purchases and support the generation of proposals and quotes prior to purchasing. Complete basic installations of components. Assist in commissioning and qualification of equipment. Troubleshoot and address mechanical issues. Develop maintenance and operator training and troubleshooting documentation. Assist in generating spare parts lists and proposing stocking levels.
- Support product qualification planning and execution.
- Support master trainers with the training of production personnel on new products, processes, and equipment.
- Support the transfer of new cabling technology, materials, and processes from development to production. Provide processing support during product development. Establish production and maintenance documentation such as MI’s, SOP’s, PM’s, calibration, and troubleshooting guides.
- Work with and train maintenance and other support personnel to improve troubleshooting skills plant‑wide.
- Maintain Corning values and safety practices.
- Consider safety implications in all decisions and review available process data.
- Collaborate with subject matter experts to analyze data and make sound engineering decisions>
- Communicate and document changes to enable expedited future responses.
- Track production performance to ensure capability is maintained.
- Nominal working hours are Monday – Friday, 8 AM – 5 PM.
- Support off‑shift as needed.
- High School or equivalent.
- 2-year technical degree preferred.
- 2+ years manufacturing environment experience preferred.
- Less than 2%.
- Creative/innovative problem solving.
- Strong technical/mechanical understanding.
- Ability to collaborate across organizational boundaries and integrate solutions.
- Results oriented and high commitment.
- Ability to learn new technology and processes quickly.
- Microsoft Excel knowledge.
- Strong interpersonal skills with demonstrated success working in teams.
- Knowledge of plastic extrusion/UV processing technologies.
- Experience with cabling process and equipment.
- Design software knowledge.
- Data analysis skills.
- Ability to use basic measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, and rulers).
- Controls knowledge and troubleshooting ability.
- Good verbal/written communication and presentation skills.
- Interpersonal skills – engaging, enabling, open.
- Rigorous problem‑solving skills.
- Planning and organization.
- Effective in managing multiple priorities.

Hourly rate: $29.75 – $34.50, dependent on geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
