Laboratory Information Systems Specialist (LIMS) - Fort SaskatchewanRole Description
As Laboratory Information Systems Specialist, you will support manufacturing operations by understanding client needs, conducting complex laboratory analyses, and using statistical tools to ensure high-quality data and results. You'll monitor analytical system performance, perform equipment calibration and maintenance, and implement new analytical methods. Your role involves providing reliable analytical information to support various business functions and resolving plant issues with advanced analytical troubleshooting skills.
You will collaborate closely with multiple departments, including Environment Operations, Energy Systems, and Maintenance.
- Perform expert-level operation, calibration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of analytical instruments and systems.
- Conduct complex routine and non-routine analyses, modifying methods as needed and coaching less experienced team members.
- Facilitate the sample submission process, ensuring alignment with plant goals.
- Investigate and troubleshoot suspect results and instrument variability.
- Select appropriate analytical techniques and generate accurate data.
- Develop, validate, and implement new analytical methods and document technical processes.
- Use statistical tools to evaluate analytical system performance.
- Troubleshoot and maintain Laboratory Information Technology (LIT) and data handling systems.
- Document and report results promptly to clients.
- Train and mentor lab personnel in analytical systems operation.
- Network to leverage technology and problem-solving strategies.
- Optimize lab programs and workflows.
- Maintain quality system requirements and participate in safety programs.
- Minimum 2-year college diploma in Chemical Technology or equivalent (or 4+ years of relevant military experience).
- 3+ years of experience in an industrial or analytical lab role.
- Legal ability to work in Canada.
- Bachelors degree or higher in Chemical Technology, Chemistry, or equivalent.
- 7+ years of experience in an industrial or analytical lab role.
- Experience with data quality assurance and various analytical instruments (e.g., FT-IR, GC, ICP).
- Experience with LIMS and Office software programs.
- Experience in lab safety program development and implementation.
- Ability to lift, push, and pull; frequent bending and reaching; standing and walking for extended periods.
- Wear required personal protective equipment.
- Independent and team-oriented work.
- Strong analytical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent decision-making and multitasking abilities.
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.
- High regard for personal and team safety.
