Overview
The Environmental Scientist is responsible for environmental remediation projects which include remediation design and implementation. The Environmental Scientist will be involved in field work to support environmental site characterization, Phase I/II site assessment, engineering, and remediation projects. Field tasks include the coordination, implementation, and documentation of: soil, groundwater, air, and soil vapor sampling; remediation system O&M; soil boring/well installation; contractor oversight.
Office duties include data reduction/evaluation, technical analysis, and reporting of project work while working with oversight from the Senior Engineer/Principal.
- Investigate, measure and evaluate environmental conditions and carry out relevant research, development, planning, design, advisory and related engineering activities.
- Provide environmental guidelines and assistance in training as required.
- Interact with clients and vendors as necessary to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Compile data, make detailed calculations and perform QA/QC once report(s) is prepared to meet government requirements.
- Determine data collection methods to ensure compliance with applicable environmental regulatory requirements.
- Prepare graphs, charts, and statistical models from collected data.
- Apply principles of engineering to solve environmental problems.
- Oversee and direct contractors concerning project work scope, development, execution, completion of reports and all documents to bring the project to closure.
- Stay current with applicable Environmental regulations and applicable guidance.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Geology or related engineering field.
- 3-6 years’ experience in environmental consulting, including project management, phase I and II investigations, and soil, surface water, and groundwater monitoring and sampling.
- Engineer-In-Training (EIT) preferred.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Ability to maintain and operate personal and/or company vehicle.
- American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) Phase I site assessment experience and knowledge of state regulations and guidelines.
- 40 hour OSHA training, preferred
- Familiar with the use of AutoCAD to assist in the production of site plan drawings.
- Experience dealing with regulatory agencies and review professionals.
- Proficient in the use of available mapping websites for due diligence and site investigation purposes.
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Software including Word, Excel, Outlook and Project.
- Must have hands-on experience with metric and English tools.
- Self-starter who can work independently and with team members.
- Independent and critical thinking abilities.
