Job Overview
Principal/Associate Civil Engineers are required to join our busy Infrastructure team to lead a variety of projects across health, defence, regeneration, leisure and other sectors. The role combines managerial and technical responsibilities, promoting a cooperative approach and inspiring teams to deliver projects on quality, budget and timescales. It offers a high degree of autonomy, ownership and opportunities for career progression.
Key Responsibilities- Lead and manage projects and multi‑disciplinary design teams, ensuring high‑quality design outputs.
- Control task budgets and support the development of staff competencies and career pathways.
- Support business development activities, creating commercial and technical responses to new opportunities.
- Promote collaboration across teams and inspire a culture of quality and efficiency.
Required Qualifications
- Professional qualification with an appropriate engineering institution (e.g. ICE, CIHT, PW|).
- Early stage optioneering.
- Comprehensive understanding of all stages of design from feasibility to detailed design.
- Experience leading infrastructure schemes through feasibility, concept, detailed design, construction, commissioning and operations.
- Project management skills covering procurement, requirements, technical assurance, risk and safety.
- Full awareness of Health & Safety legislation, CDM regulations and their application to the design process.
- Proven experience managing projects and leading multi‑disciplinary teams from bidding to delivery against contracted cost and programme.
- Excellent communication skills – verbal, written and presentation – confident in client‑facing roles.
- Experience on UK public‑sector infrastructure projects.
- Competence to independently check and approve the work of others and knowledge of key design standards and guidance.
- Experience using digital design tools for production of deliverables, including BIM.
- Coaching, mentoring and developing people and teams.
- Knowledge of contract preparation, procurement and risk management.
- Appreciation of the operational and maintenance impacts of design solutions.
