Job Summary

The post holder will work within a Child & Adolescent Mental Health Service, providing CAMHS assessment and therapeutic services to children, adolescents and their families who have been referred from within the existing service. Clients will be experiencing severe, complex and enduring psychological, emotional and mental health difficulties. The post holder will carry out this process in consultation as appropriate with the client and the family, fellow team members, other professionals, and the referrer.

We are looking for a highly motivated specialist practitioner to join our CAMHS Service. The successful applicant will be based in a community based service across the communities of North Powys. Powys CAMHS works within a whole service ethos supporting each other and encouraging individual development and recognition of unique skills. There are opportunities for training and career development. The successful applicant will work with children, young people and their families in clinic and home settings and across a range of emotional and mental health difficulties.

As part of the role there will be an expectation of working intensively and flexibility with children to reduce the likelihood of being admitted to hospital as well as when they are discharged.

Powys CAMHS has well established links with partner agencies, neighbouring CAMHS services and educational establishments. Individuals are encouraged to work autonomously with appropriate support and guidance from senior team members.

Person Specification – Qualifications and Knowledge
  • Nursing qualification (RMN) (RMNLD) or (RSCN) or School Nursing Qualification, Occupational Therapist, or Social Worker
  • Specialist training/ experience in working within CAMHS or in a setting with children experiencing Mental Health, emotional Health or Behavioural difficulties
  • Specialist knowledge / training / experience in mental health difficulties in children and adolescents
  • Capacity to interact therapeutically with children and young people with mental health difficulties
  • Expertise and specialist skills in working with complex cases
  • Knowledge and understanding of NICE guidelines
  • Safeguarding policies, risk management and identifying areas of risk
  • Knowledge of fair access and non-discriminatory practice
