KO2 is working with a highly innovative manufacturing organisation in Newtownabbey, looking for an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join their team. This is a key technical role, taking ownership of market-leading sensor product development from concept through to production launch, with exposure to customers across a global footprint.

You’ll design and develop a range of advanced sensor products, working cross-functionally within an international engineering team. It's a hands‑on role combining CAD design, supplier engagement, customer interaction, and manufacturing optimisation — ensuring delivery against customer specifications, quality standards, and project timelines.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead product development including CAD design, prototyping, validation testing, and production launch
  • Provide technical support to customers throughout the product lifecycle
  • Engage directly with customers to define specifications and agree project schedules
  • Lead engagement with suppliers, defining technical requirements and driving delivery and quality performance
  • Work cross-functionally to optimise designs for manufacturing, assembly, and cost efficiency
  • Lead engineering validation activities with test labs and production lines
  • Support change management initiatives across existing products globally
What You'll Need
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent)
  • 5+ years' experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Strong 3D CAD experience and 2D drawing preparation
  • Initiative, strong teamwork, research capability, and problem-solving skills
Nice to Have
  • Automotive industry experience and associated qualification processes
  • Solid Works, CATIA, and/or NX experience
  • Strong knowledge of engineering tolerances and GD&T
  • Design for manufacturing experience (plastic moulding, metal forming, stamping, casting, forging)
  • Knowledge of DFMEA / Design for Six Sigma
  • Understanding of sensor-related electronics, behaviour, and mechanical failure modes
What's on Offer
  • Exposure to global customers and cross-functional teams
  • Career progression in a growing, technically advanced organisation

If you're a motivated Mechanical Design Engineer looking for a technically challenging role in a forward‑thinking manufacturing business, we'd welcome your application.
