HGV Class 1 Driver - Montgomery Transport working in partnership with Action Cancer BIG BUS
Action Cancer is seeking a reliable, safety-conscious and practical HGV Driver to support the delivery of our BIG BUS service across Northern Ireland.
This is much more than a driving role. As BIG BUS Driver, you will play a vital part in bringing cancer screening and health check services directly into local communities. You will be responsible for safely transporting, setting up and maintaining our mobile unit, ensuring it is ready each day for staff and clients.

Key responsibilitiesThe postholder will be responsible for:
- Driving the BIG BUS safely to and from community, workplace and event locations.
- Carrying out daily vehicle checks, including lights, tyres, oil, coolant, brakes, tachograph, warning systems and external condition.
- Reporting any faults, damage or maintenance issues promptly.
- Setting up the BIG BUS on arrival, including positioning, levelling, operating hydraulic systems, deploying pods, canopy, steps, generator and access equipment.
- Preparing the interior of the BIG BUS for service delivery, including reception, consultation rooms, kitchen, toilet and communal areas.
- Ensuring the unit is clean, tidy, safe and welcoming for staff and clients.
- Monitoring water tanks, generator usage, fuel, AdBlue and other operational requirements.
- Supporting site inspections for future BIG BUS locations.
- Assisting with regular maintenance arrangements for the BIG BUS and associated vehicles.
- Packing down, securing and stowing the BIG BUS safely at the end of each service day.
- Refuelling, emptying waste tanks appropriately and returning the vehicle to secure overnight parking.
- Completing daily check sheets, mileage records and relevant operational paperwork.
- Liaising with the Services Administration Co-ordinator and wider BIG BUS team to support the smooth running of the service.
- Day Shift work with no nights out.

You will be dependable, practical and confident working with vehicle systems and specialist equipment. Care, attention to detail and high standards are essential, as the BIG BUS must be set up, maintained and presented safely and professionally each day. You will understand the importance of protecting the vehicle, equipment and clinical environment, ensuring the service is ready to welcome staff and clients.

- Valid HGV licence and relevant driver qualifications.
- Strong understanding of vehicle safety checks and roadworthiness requirements.
- Good practical problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.

- Flexible, reliable and willing to travel to different locations.
- Commitment to supporting the work of a charity delivering services in local communities.
