As our client continues to expand its UK and Continental Europe Energy & Power portfolio, They are seeking a Senior Associate Director – Cable System Design to play a key technical leadership role across major transmission and infrastructure projects.

This role supports a wide range of high-profile schemes, including:

  • HV AIS & GIS substations
  • Transmission system assets
  • HVDC interconnectors

You will combine hands-on technical expertise with leadership responsibility, acting as a senior technical lead while supporting the development of people, standards and best practice across the business.

Your Role & Impact

In this role, you will:

  • Lead and manage HV/EHV cable system design across all project stages (concept, FEED, detailed design and delivery).
  • Act as a senior technical specialist for HVAC and HVDC cable systems up to 400kV.
  • Provide technical leadership, guidance and assurance across multiple projects.
  • Support project delivery through close collaboration with clients, contractors and multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Mentor and develop engineers, supporting capability growth and technical excellence within the company.
Key Responsibilities
  • Technical leadership of HV/EHV cable system design (132kV–400kV).
  • Development and review of cable system specifications, calculations and design documentation.
  • Delivery of FEED and detailed design for complex cable schemes.
  • Use of CYMCAP and COMSOL to support cable rating, thermal and EMF analysis.
  • Preparation of plant, equipment, route and tender technical specifications.
  • Performing and reviewing calculations including cable sizing, ratings, TMF, EMF and sheath induced voltages.
  • Supporting FATs, site supervision and construction activities as required.
  • Ensuring compliance with CDM regulations
    , relevant legislation and internal procedures.
  • Coordinating interfaces with other engineering disciplines and the wider project team.
  • Promoting best practice in health, safety and environmental performance.
  • Supporting temporary works design and construction methodologies where required.
Qualifications
  • Degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent).
  • Chartered Engineer (IET) or working towards chartership.
  • CDAE and TP141 authorisation preferred.
Skills & Experience
  • Proven experience in HV/EHV cable system design within transmission and distribution environments.
  • Background in consultancy, contractor or utility organisations within the energy sector.
  • Strong understanding of UK National Grid and DNO standards and processes
    .
  • Experience leading technical work streams and supporting strategic project delivery.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver under pressure.
