Summary

Wage

£25,583 a year

Hours

Fixed pattern: 7.25 hours each weekday (Monday‑Friday). The work may involve evening and weekend working. Exact times to be confirmed. Total: 36 hours 15 minutes a week.

What you’ll do at work
  • Undertake professional development leading to attainment of the AAT Association of Accounting Technicians Levels 2 to 4.
  • Complete the full training programme with due diligence and commitment.
  • Apply the technical knowledge gained from studies and on‑the‑job experience and ensure knowledge is up‑to‑date.
  • Support Finance team duties including data analysis, research, data input and processing financial information.
  • Assist with queries from budget holders across the authority under the guidance of Senior Finance Officers.
  • Assist with the preparation of budget monitoring reports, statistical returns, and contribute to the development of the annual budget.
  • Support end‑of‑year close‑down activities and other financial cycles under guidance.
  • Create and develop spreadsheets as directed and suggest improvements to current spreadsheets to improve processes.
  • Work on occasional projects as assigned by Senior Finance Officers.
  • Deliver work efficiently, accurately, and to required deadlines, maintaining a methodical approach and high attention to detail.

What you’ll learn
  • Record transactional data.
  • Use the organisation's standard tools and processes to examine data to identify transactional issues such as reconciliations and inconsistencies between invoices.
  • Recognise and rectify routine errors, escalating as necessary.
  • Plan and review accounting and finance tasks.
  • Communicate with stakeholders to deliver accurate and timely results, avoiding jargon and using language tailored to the audience.
  • Use finance and accounting software packages to accurately input and manage data to contribute to routine accounting tasks.
  • Handle data and digital technology in line with cyber and data security requirements, including backing up data.
Training schedule

You will undertake the "Accounts / Finance Assistant" Apprenticeship (an Intermediate Apprenticeship in Accounting), with full support from Accountancy Learning as part of their Flexible Apprenticeship Programme.

Assessment will be via an "End Point Assessment", which will include a Structured Interview (10 questions, 60 minutes, remote via the AAT online video portal) and an In‑tray Test (105 minutes). Successful completion of the AAT (Level 2) Foundation Certificate in Accounting is a mandatory element of the Apprenticeship.

The Apprenticeship will last 15 months, although earlier completion is possible, provided the duration exceeds one year and a week.
