About This Role The Senior Accountant must be a critical thinker, analytical, energetic, and possess strong attention to detail. The senior level individual is expected to manage larger and or more complex daily tasks, independently solve complex problems on behalf of themselves and other team members, help recommend and implement ideas that improve overall group performance, train other team members, and perform a supervisory review of internal control processes.

Senior Accountants on the Apex Finance team are responsible for handling month-end close duties and analysis of financial details for stand‑alone legal entities. This role interacts with several Apex teams, including Billing, Treasury, Operations, Compliance, and Technology.

Duties/Responsibilities
  • Perform assigned monthly, quarterly, and annual general ledger closing and reporting processes.
  • Estimate, analyze, and record month‑end expense accruals.
  • Prepare reconciliations for assigned accounts. Proactively communicate daily status and elevate issues as needed.
  • Handle other accounting duties as assigned (e.g., revenue analysis, fixed asset management, intercompany expenses).
  • Handle audit requests for financial statement audits.
  • Actively cross‑train to provide back‑up coverage for team members.
  • Resolve complex operational problems and pro‑actively determine and implement improvements to workflows and controls, minimize risk, and reduce inefficiencies.
  • Actively participate in firm‑wide and departmental projects and initiatives, occasionally acting as the lead.
  • Serve as a back‑up and resource to department management and accounting staff for daily or ad‑hoc tasks.
Education And/or Experience
  • Bachelor degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or related field (or equivalent work experience) required.
  • 5+ years accounting experience, preferably in a similar role for a clearing or investment firm, proprietary trading firm, bank, or trust company.
  • Public Accounting experience preferred.
Required Skills/Abilities
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written) skills and the ability to communicate constructively within the department and the firm.
  • Excellent attention to detail, an exceptionally high degree of initiative and adaptability, and the ability to multi‑task.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment. Ability to exercise independent judgment.
  • Ability to work with numerous and conflicting deadlines.
  • Ability to perform many complex and confidential tasks with speed and accuracy.
  • Strong analytical skills to solve complex problems.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office 365.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Chartered Accountant, Certified Public Accountant, or equivalent.
  • Experience using Net Suite accounting system.
  • Intermediate to Advanced Excel abilities.

  • This job operates in a hybrid office environment 2 days per week.
