We are currently seeking a Mobile Toilet Attendant / Borough Cleansing Operative to join our team on a 12-week contract, working 36 hours per week. This is a mobile role involving driving a light van between various Council locations throughout the Borough. You will be responsible for opening and closing public conveniences and completing scheduled cleaning and associated duties to ensure Council facilities remain clean, safe, accessible and fit for purpose throughout their designated opening hours.
Key Responsibilities- Drive a light van between various Council public conveniences and other designated Council facilities throughout the Borough.
- Open and close public conveniences in accordance with scheduled operating hours and procedures.
- Carry out scheduled cleaning duties to ensure facilities are maintained to a high standard.
- Clean toilets, washrooms, floors, fixtures, fittings and other public areas as required.
- Replenish consumables and report any shortages, defects, damage or maintenance issues.
- Ensure facilities remain clean, safe, presentable and fit for purpose during opening hours.
- Complete cleaning and operational duties in a timely, efficient and professional manner.
- Maintain accurate records relating to cleaning activities, inspections, opening and closing procedures and any issues identified.
- Report incidents, damage, faults, anti-social behaviour or other concerns through the appropriate channels.
- Provide a courteous and professional service to members of the public using Council facilities.
- Work across all Council public conveniences and other Council buildings as required.
- Work independently and use initiative to identify and address issues without direct supervision.
- Comply with all relevant Council policies, procedures, health and safety requirements and working practices.
- Maintain confidentiality in all matters relating to the work of the Council.
- Carry out any other reasonable duties associated with the role.
- At least six months' previous paid employment experience carrying out cleaning duties.
- Previous experience of record keeping.
- Good verbal communication skills and the ability to communicate professionally with members of the public and colleagues.
- An understanding of and appreciation for the needs of the public.
- Ability to work independently, use initiative and complete duties without constant supervision.
- Ability and willingness to work weekdays, evenings, weekends and public holidays as required.
- Flexible approach to working across different Council locations and facilities.
- Willingness to travel throughout the Borough as part of the role.
- A valid driving licence and ability to drive a light van as required.
You will be reliable, responsible and well‑organised, with a strong work ethic and a commitment to maintaining high standards of cleanliness and public service. As this is a mobile role covering multiple locations, you must be flexible and comfortable working independently. You should have a professional and respectful approach when dealing with members of the public and be able to adapt to changing operational requirements.
Additional InformationThe successful applicant will be required to complete a medical questionnaire, including satisfactory completion of pre‑employment Drugs and Alcohol Screening and a Driving Assessment, as a condition of appointment.
