Nerd Wallet UK is seeking an experienced Software Engineering Manager/Technical Lead, to lead and grow our UK-based full-stack engineering team. In this role, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality technical outcomes, fostering a strong engineering culture, and empowering your team to thrive. You will play a key role in shaping the direction of our platform and products while ensuring alignment with our broader company strategy.
As a collaborative full-stack leader, you’ll work closely with cross-functional partners in Product and Business to drive execution and innovation. This is an exciting opportunity to make a significant impact, not only through technical delivery, but also by influencing how we build, work, and scale as a team.
You are a strong technical leader with a proven ability to deliver scalable, reliable, and high-performing systems. You are an inspiring people manager who leads with empathy, develops talent through coaching and feedback, and fosters a high-trust team environment.
You are strategic yet hands-on, able to define long-term vision while supporting day-to-day execution and delivery. You are highly collaborative, working seamlessly with Product, Design, and other cross-functional teams to align on goals and drive results. You are an excellent communicator who can clearly explain complex technical concepts to a range of stakeholders.
You are calm under pressure, guiding your team through ambiguity, change, and high-stakes challenges with confidence. You are data- and outcomes-driven, leveraging metrics to evaluate performance and continuously improve processes and team health. You are curious and forward-thinking, staying informed on industry trends and continuously seeking ways to evolve your tech stack and engineering practices.
This role reports to the General Manager, UK.
Where you can make an impact:Lead and manage team delivery in partnership with the Head of Product Management, ensuring execution excellence and alignment with business goals.
Provide technical leadership that promotes scalability, performance, security, and innovation across our systems and architecture.
Recruit, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of engineers, fostering a culture of trust, ownership, and continuous learning ensuring performance management is a focus when needed.
Support career development through coaching, feedback, and tailored growth plans, helping engineers thrive in their roles.
Set clear direction in ambiguous problem spaces, balancing long-term vision with day-to-day operational priorities. This will include architectural decisions, code reviews & system design discussions.
Be a sounding board for engineers on technical challenges, not necessarily the top coder, but a respected technical leader.
Own the reliability, uptime, and evolution of our infrastructure and applications, maintaining high standards of system health and performance.
Contribute to and challenge technical and architectural decisions, empowering engineers to lead and take ownership.
Evolve and uphold engineering standards, best practices, and development processes, ensuring consistent, high-quality outcomes.
Stay engaged with emerging technologies and industry trends to identify new opportunities for innovation.
Lead the planning, execution, and delivery of engineering projects, with a focus on timely, high-quality outcomes.
Continuously improve how we work by refining our development processes, tooling, and collaboration methods.
Monitor and leverage key engineering metrics to drive performance, efficiency, and team growth.
