Honeycomb is working in partnership with Ards and North Down Borough Council to appoint a Home Safety Officer for a full-time temporary position. The assignment is expected to run on an ongoing basis through to March 2027. The Opportunity

36 hours per week Monday - Friday 9am-5pm Pay: £15.52 per hour with weekly pay.

The Role This role provides an excellent opportunity to make a practical difference to people within the local community. As a Home Safety Officer, you will visit residents in their homes, helping to identify and reduce potential safety risks. You will provide tailored advice, arrange or install approved safety equipment where required, and connect residents with appropriate services and sources of support.

The role is focused on helping people stay safe, prevent avoidable accidents, and maintain their independence  Duties Your responsibilities will include:
Carrying out home visits across the Ards and North Down Borough Council area. Completing detailed home safety checks and identifying hazards or areas of concern. Advising residents on fire safety, carbon monoxide risks, accident prevention, and general household safety. Checking and testing smoke alarms and taking appropriate action where necessary. Identifying individual safety requirements and providing approved equipment where appropriate.

Demonstrating safety equipment and ensuring residents understand how to use it correctly. With residents' consent, signposting or referring them to suitable statutory, voluntary and community services. Working with organisations and services such as Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service, Occupational Therapy teams, Sure Start, Good Morning schemes and other wellbeing providers. Accurately recording visit outcomes and relevant information using the Regional Home Safety IT system and tablet devices.

Managing your own workload and working independently while adhering to Council procedures, safeguarding requirements and health and safety standards. Supporting broader community safety projects designed to reduce accidents and improve safety within the home. Essential Requirements Applicants must meet one of the following criteria:
Route 1 At least 5 GCSEs at Grade C or above (or equivalent), including English Language; plus. A minimum of 1 year's relevant experience. OR Route 2 At least 3 years' relevant experience. What Counts as Relevant Experience? Relevant experience could include working with:
Families with children under five. Older people. Vulnerable adults. People living with disabilities. Individuals within their own homes, residential environments, outreach services, or community settings. Experience relating to health and safety may also be considered, particularly where this has involved:
Completing, assessing, or reviewing risk assessments. Monitoring, implementing, or enforcing workplace health and safety standards. About You We are looking for someone who can build positive relationships with residents and communicate safety information clearly and sensitively. You should have:
Effective communication and interpersonal skills. The ability to manage your own workload and work independently across various locations. Good IT skills and confidence in maintaining accurate electronic records. Access to a reliable vehicle and the ability to travel throughout the Ards and North Down Council area.
