Phlebotomist I performs daily phlebotomy activities of the Patient Service Center (PSC) or In-office Phlebotomy (IOP) accurately and on time. The person in this position interacts with the client, patients, and other Path Group personnel in a professional and courteous manner and performs with confidence, both the forensic and clinical specimen collection and processing duties following established practices and procedures.

• Greets customers appropriately and treats all customers in a courteous manner.
• Ensures all field phlebotomy and PSC specimens are collected accurately and on time.
• Collects specimens according to established procedures and explains the process clearly and courteously.
• Reduces patient anxiety by providing a calm environment before, during, and after the collection process.
• Disposes of blood or other biohazard fluids, tissue, and contaminated sharps in accordance with applicable laws and policies.
• Completes requisitions accurately.
• Enters patient, specimen, insurance, or billing information into computer and maintains high level of accuracy.
• Communicates with clients to confirm orders and obtain accurate billing information.
• Researches test/client information utilizing lab computer system.
• Matches requisition forms to specimen tubes and appropriately labels, centrifuges, splits, and freezes specimens as required.
• Packages specimens for transport and stores them according to required temperature and procedures.
• Maintains required records and documentation, including daily phlebotomy logs.
• Assists with compiling monthly statistics and data.
• Performs basic clerical duties, e.g., filing, faxing, and preparing mail.
• Uses electronic data entry and records time in attendance software accurately.
• Adheres to departmental, company and lab policies, including grooming, dress code, and lab coat requirements.
• Maintains patient flow and uses time appropriately.
• Displays courteous and professional behavior to clients, patients, and coworkers.
• Answers the telephone in a friendly manner and documents pertinent information.
• Communicates pertinent information/issues to supervisor or group leader for resolution.
• Contributes to a positive work climate and team effort.
• Ensures facilities are neat, clean, and in good repair, reporting maintenance issues.
• Assists with periodic inventory counts and reports shortages.
• Uses proper PPE and follows all laboratory safety precautions.
• Performs all responsibilities in alignment with industry best security practices and regulatory guidelines to protect PHI and company data.
• Familiar with and abides by the Corporate Compliance Program and all privacy and security policies.
