Position Summary

The Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON), reporting directly to the Director of Nursing, supports the community’s clinical operations, ensuring residents receive the highest quality of care in alignment with physician directives, regulatory standards, and organizational objectives. The ADON provides oversight of nursing and caregiving staff, fosters interdisciplinary collaboration, and drives compliance, training, and continuous quality improvement.

Essential Functions
  • Assist the Director of Nursing in defining and maintaining nursing practice standards and assume responsibilities in the Director’s absence.
  • Oversee medication provision, treatments, and general nursing services according to resident care plans and physician orders.
  • Develop and maintain in‑service education programs for nursing staff.
  • Conduct and participate in daily rounds to monitor the delivery of nursing care.
  • Participate on the community’s management team in planning, policy formation, and administrative decision‑making.
  • Assess residents and potential residents for appropriate levels of care.
  • Manage and coordinate the work of all nursing and care staff, communicating resident health and safety information.
  • Supervise and monitor medications for residents who self‑administer.
  • Complete overall nursing duties on scheduled floor nurse shifts.
  • Assist with pharmacy relationships, ensuring timely medication delivery and accurate eMAR.
  • Oversee the entire clinical department, including resident assistants, CNAs, medication technicians, etc.
  • Provide interim documentation for resident files and attend interdisciplinary care meetings.
  • Demonstrate effective performance of clinical roles and responsibilities.
  • Interview, hire, train, supervise, evaluate, and retain a high‑performing resident care team.
  • Engage in efforts to increase occupancy rates while prioritizing resident wellbeing.
  • Promote the physical, personal, and emotional wellbeing of each resident.
  • Respect residents’ advance directives and follow their wishes.
  • Ensure effective communication with residents’ families regarding care.
  • Collaborate with others, take direction from management, and engage in conflict intervention when needed.
  • Perform any other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Graduation from an accredited nursing school and current state license for LPN or RN (3+ years of nursing experience preferred).
  • CPR and BLS certification preferred.
  • Knowledge of person‑directed care practices for seniors, including dementia care.
  • Experience conducting pre‑admission assessments, staff training, and education of residents/families.
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
Working Conditions
  • May require walking or standing for extended periods and moving throughout the community.
  • May need to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb, or balance at times.
  • Effective communication and written interpretation skills required.
  • May lift up to 50 pounds independently and up to 200 pounds with assistance.
  • Must follow infection prevention protocols and use PPE when necessary.
  • Will participate in team activities fostering teamwork and morale.
  • Must stay current on training and ongoing education initiatives.
