Job Description

Packaging Development & Technology Intern

Start date: January/February 2026

Duration: 6.5 – 7 months

Platform/Project: Multiple Teams (please see below).

Location: Nijmegen

Basic requirements for all
  • Strong communication skills and fluency in English, both written and verbal (Dutch is not required; other languages are a plus).
  • You are enrolled at a university for at least 50% study load for the duration of the internship.
  • EU working rights are required (EU citizenship, studying in the Netherlands, or relevant student work visa).

Assignments and key activities
  • Participate in new packaging design & materials development.
  • Support sustainable packaging projects (Rigid Plastic Packaging, Flexible Plastic Packaging, Fiber-based Packaging, Carbon Zero).
Examples
  • Scouting of new technologies: identify materials and converting solutions (technical research, meetings with suppliers, creativity sessions, consumer insights analysis).
  • Feasibility study: verify technical feasibility (lab tests, trials on production lines), estimate material costs and investments, benchmarking, Life Cycle Analysis, compliance with regulations and recycling process.
  • Review relevant literature and external information.
  • Run small packaging projects independently.
Specific team requirements
  • Packaging Engineering/Technology, Chemistry Engineering, Packaging Sustainability, 4th year Bachelor or Master student with classes on packaging design/technology/polymers/fiber sustainability/LCA.
  • Knowledge in packaging materials, processes, legislation, end-of-life, and lab tests.
  • Knowledge in sustainability.
  • Internship experience in packaging development/design or related industries is a plus.
  • Analytical, with good communication skills, able to take initiative and ownership, work independently; good time management and problem-solving skills; adaptable.
