Machine Learning/ ML Engineer, Data Engineering
Position Overview
The future starts here! Join NXP’s Product Engineering team in Nijmegen, Netherlands, as an intern focusing on anomaly detection for machine learning models in automotive ASIC development.
Responsibilities- Develop and evaluate an anomaly detection approach for machine learning models to determine the reliability of incoming data and predictions before further processing.
- Analyze large‑scale datasets to identify out‑of‑distribution behavior, data shifts, and inconsistencies between inputs and model outputs.
- Design and calibrate an anomaly scoring mechanism and decision thresholds, balancing detection sensitivity with practical review capacity in a production environment.
- Validate the solution using historical data, including simulation or injection of anomalous scenarios where required.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams (engineering and data science) to define relevant anomaly types, interpret model behavior, and translate insights into practical decision‑making workflows.
- Document the methodology, validation results, and recommended thresholds in a clear and structured way suitable for internship and thesis deliverables.
- Master’s student majoring in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Data Science, Statistics, or a closely related quantitative field.
- Minor or additional coursework in Applied Mathematics is a plus.
- Strong programming skills in Python and experience with data analysis or machine learning workflows.
- Solid foundation in statistics, anomaly detection, out‑of‑distribution detection, or distribution‑shift analysis.
- Comfortable translating analytical results into practical engineering decisions and collaborating with cross‑functional technical stakeholders.
- Interest in semiconductor test data, production analytics, and deploying trustworthy ML solutions in an industrial setting.
- Available for an internship that can be combined with a thesis project.
This is a full‑time/part‑time internship (20/40 hours per week) with a duration of 6 months or longer. The assignment may be suitable as a thesis or graduation project. Applicants must be registered as a student during the entire period.
What’s in it for youA great opportunity to develop technical, soft skills, and communication. Gain experience in a multinational and diverse environment, possibility to join NXP’s Young Professional Talent Pool, and work on real assignments that contribute to NXP’s objectives.
