The Downstream Processing (DSP) department is responsible for purification and formulation development of biopharmaceuticals and for the development of antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs). DSP plays a key role between different departments such as Upstream Processing, Analytical Development & Quality Control, Medicinal & Protein Chemistry and Manufacturing.

In close collaboration with your colleagues, you will be involved in the design, execution and documentation of experiments to purify and characterize biopharmaceutical proteins. The work includes biophysical characterization of proteins and ADCs using a multitude of analytical techniques. You will work in a stimulating group of researchers and will be able to grow both in your personal and scientific skills.

Your Role
As part of the DSP department, this role offers the opportunity to join a stimulating and collaborative team of international researchers and contribute to the development of biopharmaceutical processes. An interest in bioinformatics supports the development of new biological entities. Knowledge of proteins, preferably antibodies, is applied to the development and transfer of antibody purification processes from R&D to Operations.

Responsibilities include documenting experiments and data, writing and reviewing non-routine technical reports, and presenting results within and across departments. Data are collated and analyzed using appropriate software tools, linking outcomes across multiple complex studies, identifying deviations from expected results and proposing possible causes and solutions.

The role covers process development and process transfers, troubleshooting and root cause investigations. Active contribution to experimental work and process improvement goes hand in hand with working in accordance with applicable quality standards, regulatory requirements, internal procedures and EHS requirements.

Close collaboration with colleagues across different departments and participation in multidisciplinary projects provide opportunities to further develop scientific and personal skills. Technical and methodological expertise is shared by contributing to best practices, training and knowledge sharing on complex equipment and DSP methodologies.

What do you need to succeed in this role?
You hold a PhD in Biotechnology, Biopharmaceutical Sciences or a related discipline, or an MSc diploma and have at least five years of experience that enables you to work independently and advise others.

In addition, you have:

Scientific and technical expertise in biopharmaceutical purification process development;

Hands-on experience and willingness to actively contribute to experimental work

Good knowledge of proteins, preferably antibodies;

The ability to troubleshoot non-routine experiments and support colleagues with technical questions;

An affinity for bioinformatics and experience with, or willingness to learn, molecular modeling software (such as PyMOL or YASARA) and Python scripting;

Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English;

The ability to work effectively in a matrix organization with changing priorities and timelines.
