Position for the school year

This is a part-time position scheduled for Monday-Friday 9am-2:30pm

Reports to Howard-Ellis Principal (or designee)

Niles Community Schools is looking for a dynamic Kindergarten Instructional Assistant. Highly-effective communication skills and professionalism required for daily interaction with a diverse workforce, student population, building administration and community.

Required Qualifications:

All Instructional Assistants must meet one of the following standards to be considered highly qualified in the State of Michigan:

    • Completed two years of college (60 hours) OR
    • Obtained an Associate's Degree or higher OR
    • Pass a formal assessment of knowledge and ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics, within 60 days of employment or as directed by the building principal. Currently, our district uses the Work Keys Proficiency certificate for this standard. This assessment is delivered through Lake Michigan College or Southwest Michigan College. The initial assessment will be at the employee's expense.

      A passing score of 460 is required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (non-prioritized):

  • Provide individual, small group, and large group student instruction within the context of the classroom
  • Assist teachers in classroom management, maintaining discipline and other non-instructional functions, as needed
  • Assist with the organization and preparation of classroom materials and behavior plans
  • Administer and maintain assessment and other student records as outlined
