Primary Function
The Manufacturing Manager is responsible for achieving operational goals and leading the Production Operations and Manufacturing Engineering teams in an assembly environment. This role requires effective leadership, strategic planning, and a focus on continuous improvement to meet production goals and ensure high‑quality output.
- Oversee daily plant operations including production and manufacturing engineering.
- Collaborate cross‑departmentally to identify and resolve operational inefficiencies, bottlenecks, and quality issues.
- Lead, mentor, and develop production, manufacturing engineering, and staff in a union environment.
- Analyze production data and implement corrective actions when necessary.
- Work closely with the Manufacturing Engineer team on capital expenditure projects and plant modernization planning.
- Manage the operation’s annual operating budget to ensure cost control and optimization of resources.
- Develop, implement, and maintain safety programs to improve safety.
- Promote strong collaboration and teamwork with internal and external business partners.
- Collaborate with senior leadership in the development of performance goals and long‑term operational plans.
- Foster a team environment across many departments, encouraging open communication and breaking down barriers to efficiency.
- Drive formal process improvements to increase productivity/efficiency, reduce manufacturing costs, and optimize inventory levels.
- Ensure production meets customer schedules while maintaining the highest quality standards and plant operating efficiency with optimized resource utilization.
- Lead the development of operating systems and programs to support key business objectives including health & safety, increased production output, continuous improvement, scrap reduction, quality initiatives, and employee engagement and retention.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field preferred.
- 5–7 years of experience in manufacturing management, preferably in a metal welding environment.
- 3–5 years of experience managing operations with multiple processes (Production, Engineering, etc.).
- Ability to problem‑solve in a manufacturing environment.
- Demonstrated servant‑leadership skills with the ability to motivate and develop teams.
- Proven understanding of lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement.
- Excellent communication skills; ability to communicate openly and directly with all levels of the organization.
- Custom and repeatable production metal‑working experience in a welding environment preferred.
