Parent Educator for Parents as Teachers – Nixa Public Schools

Primary Tasks & Major Activities

• Work alongside parents/legal guardians of children prenatal to age five.
• Conduct home visits providing families with information and direction in the development of their children.
• Conduct periodic development screening for all children birth to kindergarten.
• Inform parents of possible delays in their child's development as well as normal progression.
• Refer families to internal/external agencies as needed.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Educational/Skills/Experience Required

• Certification or four‑year degree in Early Childhood Education, Early Childhood Special Education, Elementary Education, Vocational Home Economics, Family and Consumer Sciences, Child Development, or related field; demonstrate ability working with young children and their parents.
• OR two‑year associate degree or certificate program in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Nursing; demonstrate ability.
• OR sixty semester hours or more credit from an academic degree‑granting institution listed in the US Department of Education’s Directory.
• Five years of successful experience in a program working with young children and their parents approved by DESE and a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Willingness to understand and support the District’s Comprehensive School Improvement Plan.
• Must successfully pass a background check and drug test satisfactory to the Board of Education.
