Locate Technician – Grid Hawk LLC

Locate Technicians are responsible for accurately locating underground facilities including, but not limited to, telephone communication lines, electric power lines, cable television lines, gas lines, fiber optic lines, water lines, and sewer lines. This position ensures compliance with client and state requirements. Service duties include observing, locating, marking, and documenting underground and exposed utility locations. Multiple methods of locating are required.

Technicians work independently or in a team environment under an assigned supervisor. The role demands focus, skill, and use of specialized machinery and tools. Grid Hawk LLC is an equal‑opportunity employer. All employees can advance based on performance and satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Locate underground facilities using a transmitter and tools such as a pedestal.
  • Work across diverse terrain—including construction zones and residential, commercial, industrial, and rural areas—in all weather conditions.
  • Interpret job order tickets, blueprints, and maps to route and perform duties efficiently.
  • Perform standard and emergency/on‑call locates during regular, overtime, and holiday hours as needed.
  • Complete all work in a timely, professional, and efficient manner while communicating with customers, co‑employees, and third parties.
  • Communicate with management, contractors, and utility customers to ensure a damage‑free environment.
  • Maintain knowledge of technology and tools required for the role.
  • Work collaboratively within a supervised team environment.

Qualifications: Candidates must:

  • Hold a high school diploma or GED.
  • Have a valid, state‑issued driver’s license.
  • Pass a background check with no violations in the last five years.
  • Pass a DOT drug test.
  • Be able to lift over 50 pounds and walk/stand for multiple hours a day.
  • Possess strong problem‑solving and communication skills.
  • Read, interpret, and decipher multiple types of prints and maps.
  • Meet preferred experience: 1 year of computer skills and utility locating.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work independently and under supervision.
