Job Responsibilities- Facilitate the safe and efficient performance of surgical procedures through compliance with applicable policies, procedures, surgical protocols, and principles of asepsis.
- Prepare the surgical operating suite with sterile drapes and sterile solutions as well as appropriate sterile and non‑sterile instruments and supplies.
- Hand required/requested instruments and supplies to surgeon during surgery while maintaining a sterile field.
- Assist with preparing, transporting, positioning and draping patients.
- Maintain instruments in an organized manner and monitor/track instrument counts throughout procedures.
- Remain current and competent in knowledge and skills necessary to meet the responsibility of the position and take initiative to inquire and explore new surgical procedures and subjects relating to the surgical patient and operating room environment.
- Precept new and tenured staff and surgical technology students as requested.
- Function as a superuser of selected medical equipment.
- Maintain flexibility with workdays and serve on call for rotating weekend, holiday and weeknights as needed.
- For Maternity Service specifically:
- Provide patient care in the provision of routine hygienic, nutritional, and comfort needs of patients such as, but not limited to: bathing, distributing fluids and nourishments, feeding, ambulating, changing bed linens, oral care, grooming, shampooing hair, toileting, etc.
- Perform basic nursing support tasks such as but not limited to: obtaining vital signs, answering call lights, transporting (i.e. patients, specimens, etc.), assisting with patient transfers, and range of motion.
- May assist with keeping patient rooms clean and orderly as well as provide observation as a sitter when needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Minimum:
Graduate of an accredited surgical technology program - Preferred:
Certified Surgical Technologist
- Minimum:
Clinical rotations completed in an acute care multispecialty operating room setting - Preferred:
One (1) year clinical experience in general, obstetric, gyn, ENT, orthopedics, and peripheral vascular surgery
- Basic Life Safety (American Heart Association)
- Surgical Technologist certification required within one (1) year of hire to the position.
- NRP within six (6) months of hire (Maternity Unit specific requirement)
