Area Loss Prevention Manager (ALPM) at Ross Stores, Inc.
Overview
The Area Loss Prevention Manager (ALPM) is responsible for protecting the assets of Ross Stores, Inc. while achieving shortage and safety goals for assigned stores/districts/area. This role develops and maintains partnerships at store, district, and zone levels and leads Loss Prevention initiatives and programs. The ALPM collaborates with Store Managers and other cross-functional groups to minimize operational shortage, mitigate theft and fraud, and maintain a safe environment for associates and customers.
Supervisory responsibility is shared for store-based Loss Prevention associates (Store Protection Specialists or SPS) within the assigned area, including hiring, training, development, and performance management of the team. The role may support incident response and prevention for serious incidents within the assigned market.
Essential Functions
Minimizing Operational Shortage
- Achieve shortage reduction goals for assigned stores/districts/area.
- Understand and respond to shortage processes (CNS, MOS, Front-End Operations, MPT, etc.) and analytics.
- Identify shortage risks through regular review of indicator reports; partner with stores to develop action plans to address/minimize operational shortage.
- Ensure all Loss Prevention shortage audits are conducted consistently and objectively, with a focus on continuous improvement through partnership and training.
- Coach, train, and influence store leadership and associates on best practice execution to minimize operational shortage.
- Promote shortage awareness through store programs (e.g., Shortage Highway) and ensure Loss Prevention Awareness Center is visible to associates.
- Support assigned stores/districts/area during annual (and/or semi-annual) inventory processes.
- Strictly adhere to all budget guidelines established for stores/districts/area.
Mitigating Theft & Fraud
- Aggressively identify, investigate, and resolve internal and external theft and fraud to minimize loss and address new types of theft and fraud.
- Maximize use of merchandise protection tools and resources (including EAS, domes, alarm equipment, fitting room controls, Shortage Highway, etc.).
- Ensure consistent execution of deterrence resources/tools to proactively combat external loss.
- Leverage exception and store reporting systems to identify theft activity (including cash shortage) in assigned stores.
- Drive resolution and case closure on investigations; follow up on internal leads and external intelligence from retailers or law enforcement.
- Maintain confidentiality during investigations; partner with leadership and HR for corrective actions.
- Drive an effective SPS program by participating in hiring, training, and development of SPS associates.
- Maintain records and reports of theft activity and related follow up; disseminate reporting as necessary.
- Share expertise on security and loss prevention systems through new store openings, remodels, and expansions.
Maintaining a Safe & Secure Environment
- Drive achievement of accident reduction goals for General Liability and Workers Compensation for assigned area.
- Conduct regular Loss Prevention safety audits for compliance with safety standards and programs.
- Promote a safety-first culture through store audits and safety initiatives.
- Participate in regular conference calls to raise safety awareness and emergency procedures.
- Execute crisis management and incident response; coach leadership on findings and prevention techniques.
- Provide physical security expertise and ensure proper functionality of security technologies (alarms, CCTV, etc.).
- Assess building integrity and follow up on equipment failures.
Developing Great Teams & Partnerships
- Train store leadership and partners on Loss Prevention initiatives; participate in key store meetings and recognition programs.
- Develop and maintain relationships with corporate LP and field peers; share store/market trends.
- Collaborate with internal teams to drive integrated shortage control and accident reduction solutions.
