Data Control Office lead will play a key role in setting up and strengthening the firm’s enterprise data governance framework. This role will be responsible for defining data governance policies, data quality standards, taxonomy structures, master data management processes, data catalogue, and data lineage practices across business functions.
The role requires a blend of governance mindset, process orientation, analytical capability, and stakeholder management skills. The individual is expected to work closely with functional teams, technology teams, reporting teams, and leadership to ensure data is standardized, governed, reliable, and fit for decision-making, analytics, BI, and AI/ML use cases.
1. Data Governance Framework
- Define, implement, and continuously improve the firm’s data governance framework, operating model, and control mechanisms.
- Draft and maintain data governance policies, standards, SOPs, and guidelines for enterprise-wide adoption.
- Establish governance structures for data ownership, stewardship, approval workflows, and accountability.
- Drive adoption of governance principles across multiple support and business functions.
2. Master Data Management
- Design and manage processes for creation, modification, approval, maintenance, and retirement of master data.
- Define standards for key master data domains such as vendor, customer/client, employee, project, cost centre, GL-related reference data, service codes, item masters, and other reference data.
- Ensure master data structures are aligned with operational, reporting, and compliance requirements.
- Work with business stakeholders to reduce duplication, improve standardization, and strengthen master data quality.
3. Data Quality Management
- Define data quality rules, validation logic, business rules, thresholds, and monitoring mechanisms.
- Establish frameworks for tracking data quality dimensions such as accuracy, completeness, consistency, validity, uniqueness, and timeliness.
- Lead identification of data issues, root cause analysis, and remediation planning.
- Partner with process owners and system teams to embed preventive and detective controls.
4. Taxonomy, Metadata, Catalogue & Lineage
- Define and maintain business taxonomies, controlled vocabularies, naming conventions, and classification structures.
- Lead creation and ongoing maintenance of a data catalogue including business definitions, owners, source systems, usage, and dependencies.
- Support development and documentation of data lineage from source to reporting/consumption layers.
- Ensure metadata management practices are established and consistently applied.
Candidate Profile
Education
- B.Tech / BE / MBA with specialization in Information Management, Data Analytics, Operations, Systems, Technology Management, or other relevant discipline.
Experience
6 – 9 years of experience in a consulting, shared services, or enterprise data function will be preferred.
Required Skills & Competencies
- Strong understanding of data governance concepts, master data management, data quality frameworks, and metadata management
- Experience in defining policies, standards, workflows, RACI, and operating models
- Good understanding of business process data across functions such as Finance, Procurement, HR, Project Management, CRM, etc.
- Familiarity with BI platforms such as Power BI, Tableau, or similar Working understanding of AI/ML concepts, advanced analytics use cases, and data readiness needs.
