Position: Engineering Technician Sub-Journey 3 (PCN 251803)

The Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) Northern Region Highways and Aviation is looking for An Engineering Technician – Sub Journey 3 in Nome to help us Keep Alaska Moving!

Responsibilities
  • Works under the direction of a Project Engineer as a lab technician or inspector, supporting all phases of civil construction projects such as roads, bridges, airports, and utilities.
  • Monitors construction activities to ensure compliance with project plans, specifications, and safety standards, documenting contractor methods, quantities, and productivity.
  • Performs field and lab testing of construction materials (e.g., asphalt, concrete, soil), collects and records data, and assists with surveys, computations, and project documentation.
  • Supports project administration by preparing pay estimates, maintaining inspection diaries, and compiling materials records for project closeout and QA review.
  • May be assigned to other DOT sections in the winter (e.g., Materials, Bridge, Design, ROW, Environmental) to provide technical support as needed.

Working Environment

This position is based in Nome, Alaska with our Northern Region Western District Construction team. If you like variety, this role has it all. Some days you’ll be at your desk using computers and project tools to track progress, document findings, and collaborate with the team. Other days, you’ll be out in the field inspecting sites, operating equipment, and seeing firsthand how your work improves Alaska’s infrastructure.
