Transportation Security Administration (TSA)
Transport security officers provide security and protection of travelers and transportation assets in a courteous and professional manner. Duties include screening passengers and cargo, controlling terminal access, and responding to security threats.
Duties- Operate screening equipment and technology to detect dangerous objects in baggage, cargo, and passengers.
- Conduct searches, including physical inspections, bag searches, and lifting/carrying items up to 50 lbs.
- Control terminal entry and exit points.
- Interact with the public, give directions, and respond to inquiries.
- Maintain focus in stressful environments while making effective decisions in both routine and crisis situations.
- Apply risk‑based security screening protocols and continually develop critical thinking skills to mitigate threats.
- Maintain knowledge of Standard Operating Procedures and adapt to new information or unexpected obstacles.
The estimated salary range for Nome, AK is $73,809 to $91,767 per year (approximately $35.37 – $43.97 per hour), including locality, COLA, and a retention incentive.
Sign‑On BonusUp to $5,000, paid in two installments within the first 12 months of service.
Physical Demands- Squat, bend, and lift up to 50 lbs repeatedly.
- Walk up to 3 miles during a shift and stand for prolonged periods (up to 4 hours).
- U.S. citizenship or U.S. national.
- Minimum age 18.
- Selective Service registration (required for males born after 12/31/1959).
- Pass a structured interview, drug screening, medical evaluation, background investigation, and post‑employment random testing.
- Proficiency in English.
- Availability for various shifts, overtime, and travel for training.
- Exposure to potentially lethal devices and chemicals.
Meet one of the following:
- Experience:
At least one year of full‑time work in the security industry, aviation screening, or as an X‑ray technician. - Education:
High school diploma or equivalent (GED, HiSET, TASC).
- Occasional travel (3–6 weeks) for new‑hire training.
- No delinquent federal or state taxes or child support payments.
- Residency within the U.S. for at least three of the last five years (exceptions apply for foreign government service, dependents, study abroad, or federal contractor background).
Full‑time positions: 40 hours per week, shift work on any day including nights, holidays, and overtime. Part‑time positions: 16–32 hours per week with similar shift flexibility.
