Heavy Equipment Mechanic

The Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) State Equipment Fleet is looking for a Heavy Duty Mechanic-Automotive-Advanced Journey/Lead to help us Keep Alaska Moving!
What you will be doingProfessionally maintain all heavy equipment associated with the construction and maintenance of highways, secondary roads and rural airports including, but not limited to motor graders, loaders, dump trucks, roller compactors, sand spreaders, backhoes, and tractor‑trailer combinations.
This is an advanced journey level mechanic position required to diagnose, repair and maintain a wide variety of heavy trucks and equipment for the State Fleet. You will perform computerized diagnostics and repair both electronic and mechanical systems. You must resolve unusual or complex equipment problems through a variety of techniques and methods. In a shop or remote setting you will perform routine and specialized repair and maintenance on diverse heavy equipment with diagnostic requirements.
Examples of equipment include motor graders, loaders, various trucks, snow blowers, sanders from different manufacturers and a wide range of model years. A base working knowledge of equipment components is required to move or operate the equipment for service and to diagnose problems not specified in applicable programs.
As part of the State Equipment Fleet (SEF) team, you will have a direct impact on the department mission of “Keeping Alaskans Moving through Service and Infrastructure.” SEF's mission is to provide all state agencies with safe, economical vehicles they need to accomplish their mission. Your work will aid in keeping essential vehicles and equipment on our roads and runways to keep Alaskans moving safely around our state.

The working environment you can expectThis position is located at MP 3.5 Nome‑Teller Road, Nome, AK. Some travel in small planes to maintain equipment in remote locations is possible. Travel consists of day trips and overnight stays.
