Position: Juvenile Justice Counselor 2, On-Call (PCN 06N20002)

This position is open to Alaska Residents only. Please check the residency definition to determine if you qualify.

Location

Nome Probation Office, 113 W Front St., Suite 215, Nome, Alaska.

Role Overview

Juvenile Justice Counselor 2 – On‑Call, Non‑Permanent position. Work will be on day, evening, night shifts, weekends and holidays. Duties include ensuring the security of youth awaiting transport to the nearest juvenile detention facility during assigned shifts, performing escorts from Nome to other youth facilities and residential treatment centers across the State, and occasionally assisting with on‑site air travel. The role requires periodic off‑site work and adherence to a flexible schedule.

Qualifications (Minimum)
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Six months of experience, paid or volunteer, teaching or coaching youth group activities.
  • Must be 20 years of age or older.
  • OR six months as a Juvenile Justice Counselor 1 with the State of Alaska.
  • OR six months administering, advising on, performing, or supervising corrections, law enforcement, parole, probation, residential treatment casework, or social casework.
  • Substitutions:
    Completed accredited college coursework (3 semester hours or 4 quarter hours equal one month of experience) or military experience may substitute on a month‑for‑month basis.
Physical Requirements

On‑call duty; must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and perform occasional travel.
