Mission Performance Engineer - Temporary [26111]
Full-time. Duration (in Months): 7.

Responsibilities
Contribute to all aspects (project internal activities, monitoring/review of the relevant industrial activities, interaction with Mission Users and Scientists) relevant to the mission performance of the mission up to Level 2.
Maintain mission and system level requirements; monitor and critically analyse requirement allocation, flow down to contributors, associated margins, evolution and verification.
Support the payload team for instrument performance requirements flow‑down and verification, including relevant models and tools.
Follow up the End‑to‑End Simulator and GPP procurement, verification/validation and acceptance activities; acquire working knowledge of tools for test data generation and internal mission level verification; develop additional mission performance mathematical models and tools.
Maintain mission level performance and error budgets; analyse compliance with end‑to‑end mission performance requirements and propose corrective actions if deviations occur.
Monitor and review definition and implementation of characterisation, calibration and validation plans; follow up specification, procurement and verification/validation of relevant equipment and activities.
Support preparation, execution and analysis of in‑flight CAL/VAL operations during commissioning.
Support PDGS development for Ground Processor aspects and cross‑verification activities of the PDGS operational ground processor against the GPP.
Support the running of the Mission Advisory Group (MAG) for mission and instrument performance aspects, including end‑to‑end performance verification and compliance status.
Interact with the Mission Users Community and Scientific Community for mission definition, products definition, and mission & instrument performance aspects.
Assist the System and Engineering Manager and other project team members in all aspects related to mission performance, as necessary for effective project execution.
Cooperate closely with the instrument team in executing the relevant tasks, and work with specialist engineers from the Earth Observation Projects Department and the Directorate of Technical and Quality Management (D/TEC) as appropriate.
Qualifications
Master’s degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant physical science or engineering subject.
Demonstrated experience in performance assessment of optical instrumentation for atmospheric observation, including image processing.
Experience working with Earth limb observation systems and knowledge of aerosols and ozone observational data are assets.
Proficiency with programming languages relevant to system performance models (e.g., MATLAB and Python).
Solid analytical skills, broad, system‑oriented thinking, and the ability to learn quickly across application domains.
Capability to critically analyse work performed by industry, identify problems and propose corrective actions.
Fluency in English is mandatory; knowledge of another European language is an advantage.

This position is a temporary parental cover for 6 months.
