Celestia Satellite Test & Simulation BV (C-STS) is a company dedicated to continuous innovation in spacecraft communications, providing technology products, systems and services to the space, defence, telecoms and satellite markets. The company focuses on RF engineering, ground station systems, payload simulation and testing, and IoT solutions, offering a fully integrated ground station installation approach.

Modem Engineer  – The role is based in Noordwijk, The Netherlands and involves cutting‑edge engineering of RF and optical modems used for modulation, demodulation, and signal processing of satellite communication links.

Core Activities

EGSE – Electrical Ground Support Equipment used to simulate and test satellite subsystem interfaces

TT&C – Telemetry, Tracking & Command equipment used to communicate with satellites in space

Optical Digital Converters – subsystem of optical ground stations enabling data retrieval from satellites via laser communication

Responsibilities
The role includes involvement in defining modem system architectures, DSP algorithms, and system operations from initial design through to finished products, with hands‑on development and support in collaboration with C-STS engineers and customers.

Gathering system requirements and issuing specifications

Resolving system design trade‑offs

Interacting with system engineers, VHDL/FPGA specialists, and SW designers

Organising and handling firmware outsourcing for modem and FEC solutions

Supporting TT&C and high‑rate legacy products

Supporting verification and validation lab benches and procedures

Preparing formal documentation for project or product‑oriented activities

Contributing to proposals for innovative satellite communications technologies

Analyzing, modelling, and simulating DSP algorithms

Qualifications, Skills & Experience

Degree in Electrical, Computer Engineering or a related field

Experience in signal processing and digital modulation schemes (e.g., GMSK, OQPSK, QPSK)

Proficiency with C, C++, MATLAB, Simulink, and HW/SW platform prototyping

Knowledge of FEC techniques (trellis, convolutional codes, BCH codes, LDPC, turbo codes)

Familiarity with FPGA (Xilinx) and VHDL design

Experience in packaging and continuous improvement of engineering software

Excellent problem‑solving skills and ability to work collaboratively in a high‑tech, dynamic environment
