We are looking for an EMC Engineer to join our team in support of ESA’s Power Systems, EMC and Space Environment Support Service.
The position is based on-site at ESTEC’s premises in Noordwijk, The Netherlands.
About the client and location
The European Space Research and Technology Centre ( ESTEC ) is the European Space Agency’s (ESA) base in Noordwijk, The Netherlands. As ESA’s largest test centre, it is responsible for the majority of space technology and spacecraft development through varying phases of production.
Please note that appointment to this role is subject to eligibility for ESA Security Clearance.
Tasks and activities
The scope of work will include:
Providing technical support to ESA projects in the field of spacecraft Electromagnetic Compatibility throughout all project phases, including:
Definition and assessment of EMC requirements, design, test and verification procedures at spacecraft and equipment level.
Supporting EMC troubleshooting activities for spacecraft equipment and systems affected by electromagnetic interference.
Assessment of EMC test results, EMC non-conformances, Request for Deviation and Request for Waivers.
Participation in feasibility studies, procurement evaluations, design reviews and acceptance reviews.
Supporting R&D activities and technology developments in the EMC domain and contribution to training activities, knowledge management and dissemination of results.
Participating in test campaigns (on-site/off-site) and for EMC laboratory activities, including test execution and facility maintenance.
Supporting EMC modelling and simulation activities, involving 3D full-wave electromagnetic simulations, equivalent circuit modelling and analyses.
Assisting with electrical safety assessments and ESA safety review activities related to human spaceflight programmes, where applicable.
Skills and experience
The following skills and experience are mandatory:
PhD or master’s degree in physics and/or Electrical Engineering, with minimum 4 years of relevant experience.
Minimum of 7 years of relevant professional experience.
Demonstrated knowledge of EMC requirements.
Expertise in EMC analysis and practical experience in EMC testing.
Familiarity with both Industrial EMC practices and the European Space Agency review processes.
Experience in the assessment of EMC test data, specifications and request for Waivers.
Desire to work both autonomously and as part of a team, in an international multicultural environment.
Solution oriented mindset, with a customer focused communication skill.
Fluent in English, both written and spoken.
The following skills and experience would be highly desirable:
Expertise in harness engineering.
