Lightera has a long legacy in optical fiber solutions, dating back to Alexander Graham Bell. We seek a Chemical Engineer – Plant & Factory to support our Norcross, GA location.
Under general supervision, the role oversees operation and maintenance of chemical delivery systems, industrial wastewater systems, and air pollution abatement systems. The engineer provides technical guidance to trades and contractors for modifications, optimization, and configuration to ensure reliability and performance in support of production operations.
Key Responsibilities- Promote a safe work environment by identifying unsafe conditions, correcting them, and modeling proper use of PPE.
- Write and/or maintain procedural instructions for operation and maintenance of chemical delivery, wastewater treatment, and air pollution abatement equipment (standard operating procedures, lock‑out/tag‑out procedures, maintenance procedures, etc.).
- Maintain records of chemical usage and coordinate with Accounting to report monthly inventories.
- Use database systems to monitor, track, and report equipment performance, detecting potential issues early.
- Possess knowledge of the chemicals used in the facility and work with trades to maintain integrity of ultra‑high purity systems and industrial chemical delivery systems.
- Troubleshoot problems related to chemical delivery, wastewater treatment, and air pollution abatement systems as they arise.
- Organize semi‑annual shut‑down work to clean primary scrubber systems and perform non‑routine maintenance.
- Support production on projects that affect or associate with chemical delivery, wastewater treatment, and air pollution abatement systems.
- Design and implement modifications to improve operation or reduce operating cost.
- Complete other production‑support projects as assigned.
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering.
- Preferred fields of study:
Chemical Engineering, Biochemical Engineering, or Environmental Engineering. - Prior experience in plant or factory engineering (preferred).

- Comfortable working around hazardous chemicals.
