Georgia-Pacific is currently looking for a Process & Product Development Engineer to join the Packaging Research & Development Team. The selected candidate will support innovation initiatives focused on providing the market with more sustainable fiber-based alternatives to plastic packaging. This is a dynamic role that works with a cross-functional team to develop and commercialize new processes, products and product improvements.
The Process & Product Development Engineer will primarily work from Georgia‑Pacific Packaging's Innovation Institute in Norcross, GA (right outside of Atlanta), but should expect to travel up to 25% of the time.

WhatYou Will Do
- Become the technical lead for development and commercialization of select new packaging processes, products and product improvements
- Work with multifunctional R&D team to lead planning, mechanical design, and build out of lab scale paper converting pilot equipment.
- Plan and execute process & product development trials in lab or at manufacturing facility
- Develop new paper packaging products according to customer needs & help customer integrate with their converting equipment
- Provide technical feedback on customer questions and complaint root cause analysis as needed
- Gain understanding of all relevant paper, mailer, and transportation lab tests. Expand internal testing capabilities as new needs arise
- Lift up to 50lbs with or without assistance
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering
- Four (4) or more years' experience in a role utilizing strong mechanical design knowledge, analytical thinking, and problem‑solving skills
- Willing and able to travel up to 25%
- Experience manipulating and analyzing test data to derive statistically sound conclusions
- Willing and able to perform work in a manufacturing environment during trials
- Six (6) or more years' experience in a role involving design and hands on build of mechanical systems and control systems
- Experience in Paper, Packaging, or Converting industries
