Junior High Guidance Counselor
Requirements- Masters Degree in school counseling
- Valid Nebraska teaching certificate with an endorsement as a guidance counselor
- A minimum of three years teaching experience is preferred
- Such alternatives to these qualifications as the Board of Education may find appropriate and acceptable

Job GoalTo help students overcome such academic, personal, emotional, and social problems as interfere with their learning and adjustment to school
Terms of EmploymentContracted school year or as established in the negotiated agreement
EvaluationEvaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the district’s Personnel Evaluation Policy
Essential Duties- Assists students directly with academic, personal, emotional, and social problems
- Assists teachers with intervention strategies or alternative instruction for students prior to admission to student service programs or to those students who fail to qualify for student service programs
- Leads Team Meetings and Student Assistance Teams and participates with other personnel in Individual Education Plans or Challenge Program Admission
- Develop and renew 504 accommodation plans
- Promotes preventative practices and assists teachers in resolving student and/or parent conflicts
- Oversees, analyzes, and interprets student achievement scores on standardized achievement tests, reading tests, etc. and recommends action to remedy weak areas for individual students, classes, and school
- Works with teachers and other staff members to familiarize them with services offered to students and to improve educational assistance to students through school and community resources
- Help families better understand the school and its program
- Meets periodically with district guidance team
- Assists in supervision of students when needed
- Assists administration with team scheduling, individual scheduling during regular school year as well as summer school
- Organizes, maintains, and coordinates student information services and cumulative files
- Organizes and coordinates the testing programs
- Performs other duties within the scope of employment and certification as assigned by administration
