KeyJob Duties And Responsibilities
- Assists in the administration of medications to residents as ordered by the attending physician, under the direction of nurse supervisor or charge nurse.
- Ensures medication administration is in accordance with nursing standards, policies, procedures, and state requirements.
- Complies with community personnel, safety, and corporate policies.
- Complies with nursing department policies and procedures.
- Reports witnessed or reported allegations of resident abuse/neglect immediately to the Executive Director, RCC/Nurse Supervisor/Charge Nurse.
- Treats residents, family members, visitors, and team members with respect and dignity.
- Maintains confidentiality of resident and family information.
- Reports to work on time and as scheduled.
- Reports any complaints/grievances made by residents to the RCC/Nurse Supervisor/Charge Nurse or per policy.
- Participates and cooperates with community surveys (inspections) by authorized government agencies as requested.
- Maintains a clean and organized medication cart and medication room.
- Protects resident privacy when administering medication, knocking before entering the resident’s room.
- Accurately and safely prepares, administers, and documents oral and/or topical medications commonly used in the community.
- Documents and reports errors in medication administration immediately upon discovery.
- Ensures medications administered are properly labeled and follow community policy on storage, labeling and dating.
- Completes medication charting per community policy and procedure.
- Assists with following community policies regarding the destruction of medications.
- Documents and removes medications that are discontinued by the attending physician.
- Follows procedures for drug receipt errors, notifying delivery source and RCC/Nurse Supervisor/Charge Nurse.
- Follows procedures for holding medications for residents who are out of the community or per physician order.
- Honors resident’s right to refuse medications.
- Observes and verifies medication ingestion or application as directed; documents instances where medication is not administered including reasons for refusal.
- Notifies RCC/Nurse Supervisor/Charge Nurse of refusals or reactions to medications immediately.
- Ensures no medication is administered without a written, signed, dated order from an attending licensed physician.
- Verifies resident identity before administering medication.
- Follows procedures allowing residents to self‑administer medications.
- Assists RCC/Nurse Supervisor/Charge Nurse in monitoring and documenting self‑administration; notifies nurse when refills are needed.
- Familiar with common medical abbreviations, symbols, and terms used by community pharmacists and physicians.
- Uses personal protective equipment when performing procedures involving blood or body fluids.
- Reports hazardous conditions and equipment to the RCC/Nurse Supervisor/Charge Nurse immediately.
- Follows safety precautions in all duties.
- Washes hands before and after performing any resident service.
- Reports occupational exposures to blood, body fluids, infectious materials, hazardous chemicals in accordance with policies.
- Assists residents with daily hygiene and toileting needs and all other daily living activities; assists CNAs with daily duties when needed.

- Regular worksite attendance.
- Valid CMA certification in good standing with the state.
- If required to operate a motor vehicle for business purposes, successfully complete Company’s Motor Vehicles policy.
- Basic computer skills.
- Proficient in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding English.
- Willingness to work beyond normal hours and on weekends and holidays when necessary.
- Assists in evacuation of residents during emergencies.
- Performs essential position functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Meets general health requirements set by state regulations and company policy.
- Uses transfer/gait belt or obtains assistance when lifting or carrying objects in excess of 25 lbs; aware of required body movements during routine performance.
- Primary physical requirements: lift up to 10 lbs constantly; lift 11–25 lbs constantly; lift 26–50 lbs frequently; lift over 50 lbs frequently; carry up to 10 lbs constantly; carry 11–25 lbs occasionally; carry 26–50 lbs occasionally; carry over 50 lbs occasionally; reach above shoulder height frequently; reach at shoulder height constantly; reach below shoulder height constantly; push/pull constantly; hand manipulation: grasping constantly;
handling constantly; torquing occasionally; fingering occasionally; twist, bend, crawl, squat, kneel, crouch, climb, and balance required. - May be required to operate an automobile.
- Must relate and work with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset and occasionally hostile individuals.
- Must have adequate vision, hearing or suitable prosthetics.
