Construction Inspector at Wallace Montgomery – Norfolk, VA 23510.

Construction Inspectors inspect, observe, and document construction and maintenance projects; they perform tests on soils and materials under the supervision of a Project Engineer. Inspectors may be supervised by a client’s direct employee and must travel throughout the State as assignments change. They must have a valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and be available to work night shift when required.

Essential Functions
  • Performs field inspections of construction and maintenance projects and of existing roadways, structures and facilities.
  • Conducts and/or observes and documents tests on soils, asphalt, concrete, aggregates, bituminous products, metal products and industrial coatings.
  • Responds to data requests.
  • Participates in traffic control activities.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Asphalt Field Level I & II
  • Hydraulic Cement Concrete Field
  • Pavement Marking
  • Slurry Surfacing
  • Flagger Certification
  • Certification for Erosion and Sediment Control Inspection
  • Stormwater Management (Inspector) Certification
  • Intermediate Work Zone Traffic Control
  • GRIT (Guardrail Certification)
  • Nuclear Gauge Safety Training and the 10‑Hour OSHA Safety Training
  • Fill out the Inspector's Daily Report (IDR) which records all labor, equipment, and material used each day.
  • Maintain daily progress photos of the work.
  • Fill out Force Account records when there is an unresolved change, but the change work must still be performed.
  • Maintain a Sketchbook containing a variety of construction documentation.
  • Participate in the reconciliation of pay quantities on progress payments submitted by the Contractor.
  • Attend all meetings, as needed and appropriate.
  • When appropriate, participate in change‑order negotiations.
  • When appropriate, participate in CPM schedule meetings.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to travel throughout the state as assignments change.
  • Ability to work night shift when required.
  • Drug‑free workplace and equal‑opportunity employment.
